j_b Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 "How can we ever cut government down to size? I believe there is only one way: the way parents control spendthrift children, cutting their allowance. For the government, that means cutting taxes. Resulting deficits will be an effective – I would go as far as to say, the only effective – restraint on the spending propensities of the executive branch and the legislature.” Milton Friedman Quote
prole Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 his record-breaking achievement CBO sees record $1.2 trillion '09 deficit CBO: Economy will shrink by 2.2 percent, unemployment may hit 9 percent The Associated Press updated 4:16 p.m. PT, Wed., Jan. 7, 2009 WASHINGTON - The federal budget deficit will hit an unparalleled $1.2 trillion for the 2009 budget year and the U.S. economy will likely contract by more than 2 percent, according to a new Congressional Budget Office report. The eye-popping estimates reflect plummeting tax revenues because of the recession and about $400 billion spent to bail out the financial industry and take over mortgage finance companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Last year's deficit was $455 billion. The CBO estimate released Wednesday also sees the U.S. economy shrinking by 2.2 percent this year and recovering only slightly to grow by 1.5 percent in 2010. It foresees the unemployment rate eclipsing 9 percent early next year unless the Obama administration steps in. "The recession — which began about a year ago — will last well into 2009," the CBO report says. The agency said that "ongoing turmoil in the housing and financial markets has taken a major toll on the federal budget." The dismal figures come a day after President-elect Barack Obama warned of "trillion-dollar deficits for years to come." Quote

You know, thats the least he could do since Geo Bush and crew got us started way down this road to indebtedness hell. I know, lets give everyone who buys a huge gas guzzler the size of a school bus a $8000 tax break! Wait - already been done by shit for brains. Thank the lord we don't have that kind of crap happening now. Quote

Can you even read? Do you read anything besides headlines? From your brought up source: "Tax receipts for the year fell 16.6% overall, while spending soared 18.2% compared to fiscal year 2008. The causes: rising unemployment, the economic slowdown and the extraordinary measures taken by lawmakers to stem the economic meltdown that hit in fall 2008." Maybe not mental illness, but a complete lack of ability to comprehend- but what would you expect from republifuck? Quote
