ryland_moore Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 Still planning on coming. Will call Redpoint on Friday afternoon. If not, then I will be at Smith next weekend for sure. Pray for no rain, only freshiez in the mountains. Quote
bellemontagne Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 quote: Originally posted by Dru: That forecast is the suckiest EVER for Smith. This forecast does not sound bad at all - it is very typical for the Fall and Winter months. One Christmas a friend and I decided to camp out at the grasslands and climb at Smith. Well, we picked to go at the worst time. One of the famous Central Oregon inversions was going on at the time. The ceiling was very low, and most everything was socked in. It managed only to get to 20 or 21 that day. We were miserable. We drove back to Eugene to find sunny skies, and the highs were in the 40's. So we ended up climbing at the columns the next day! Quote
bellemontagne Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 I'll be in Sunriver from tomorrow until Friday. Friday evening I will be pulling into the grasslands. Look for a dark Blue Subaru Ouback, with Oregon plates and a Yakima Rocketbox full of stickers. Personally, I think it's too early to make a call on the weather (however, if I had a chance to go ice climbing, I'd be there instead of Smith). It probably won't be too bad. See ya there JK, SK, Timm@y, and Ryland. Quote

I actually spent 2 days climbing at Smiff in the snow my first time there. then we bailed and went over to the west coast beaches and saw sea lions & shiznit. Quote

Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 Silly Canadian. When the forecast calls for "rain" at Smith, you can count on maybe needing to sit out one or two climbs, and enjoying an otherwise dry day. The rain will stop soon, the rock will dry out, and all will be good. In ten years of Smith trips, there have been perhaps ten days that have been total losses to rain. So go tug on some nubbins, already. Quote

ryland_moore Posted November 6, 2002 Posted November 6, 2002 Too bad all those desert caves are closed to climbers, yet left open to cavers and kids partying, and motor cross assholes! Actually, Timmay or others who live in Bend, know anything about the few caves that are still open to climbers? I am guessing they stay dry during rain! Quote
texplorer Posted November 7, 2002 Posted November 7, 2002 So what's up? Am I goin to get to see the 'Spayin Canadian' crimp the tuft or what? Anyway, I'll be there at least one day to get spanked by the sport monkeys. (or climb wartleys) Quote
