Pablo007 Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I am looking to improve my fitness level for hiking/mountaineering at altitude. I have a good overall fitness level and would like to find a personal trainer who participates in mountaineering or hiking and who lives in the Vancouver, B.C area. I would like to learn more about training while improving my overall fitness. I have heard Kinesiologists are better qualified for my needs. Is there any Kinesiologists out there or have you got any advice, responses would be appreciated!! Quote
John Frieh Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Fern Webb is in your area and comes highly recommended. Quote
Tokogirl Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 My girlfriend, Margaret Waechter, has trained a number of athletes including Steve House. Her personal background is that of a national team skier in Canada. She is originally from Canada but now lives in Winthrop, WA. Quote
Tokogirl Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 winthrop is a little far from vancouver. True. She is often in Vancouver, BC and the surrounding vicinity as she has several skiers she coaches in that area. Alot of what she does is to monitor the athletes via the internet and spreadsheet profiles. I am sure there are some great resources closer but she has worked with a several climbers and works with endurance athletes. Cheers! Quote
John Frieh Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 http://www.mtnathlete.com/index.php Fern attended a Mountain Athlete Seminar and is familiar with Rob's (Rob is Mtn Athlete) methodology and training philosophy. But yeah Mtn Athlete and Gym Jones are a great foundation to any sport specific training program. Quote
Pablo007 Posted April 14, 2009 Author Posted April 14, 2009 I will take a closer look at Fern and Margaret, thanks for your valuable input guys Quote
fern Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Hi Pablo Feel free to send me an email or private message here with any questions. I can definitely help you find resources in the Vancouver area to help you with your fitness training, whether it's with personal training or guidance with a self-directed program. Quote
jon Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 The Hells Angles has an excellent outdoor training program operating out of Abbotsford consisting of sherpa..errr.....ummm...ering loads of extacy and pot across the border peaks. Quote
G-spotter Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 The Hells Angles has an excellent outdoor training program operating out of Abbotsford consisting of sherpa..errr.....ummm...ering loads of extacy and pot across the border peaks. Hey jon do you roll with the Red Scorpions or the UN? Quote
giza Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 G-spotter, what's it like dodging bullets out there in gangland? I heard that the Bacon Brothers have taken control of Pick-a-Part, Dinoland, and the Tim Horton's on Vedder rd. That's some 'wack shit yo Quote
giza Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Sorry for the drift - why don't you look into Crossfit? I know some people who've seen big gains from the program. As far as i know there are two crossfit gyms in van - one d/t and the other near Clark. Worth looking into if you want to tear shit up. Quote
jon Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Dru I'm rolling with Donairo's. Our clubhouse is on S. Frasier Way. Quote
fern Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 two Crossfit gyms in downtown Van, one at Clark&3rd, one in N Van, one in W. Van, two in Langley, two in Surrey, one in Maple Ridge. not too many CrossFit trainers in lower mainland with experience at high altitude mountaineering though. Quote
DanO Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 7 to 10 miles with a 30lb plus pack 3-4 times a week about half the distance should be going up and down hill. The best training for climbing, is actual climbing so do so every chance you get on the weekends. Dan Quote
