catbirdseat Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Star Wars accurately predicted how full of big budget no plot animated movies the future would be. I think that The Towering Inferno heralded in the age of the special effects blockbuster. I would have to agree that 2001 A Space Odyssey was way ahead of it's time. Another one that comes to mind is Silent Running. Quote

STP Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Brazil. Captured some aspects of the current zeitgeist? Â So, how many times has Paulson changed the plan? Five? Quote
Bug Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Star Wars accurately predicted how full of big budget no plot animated movies the future would be. A friend of mine was working in LA in the seventies trying to become a big star but meanwhile shooting commercials. He shot a couple with Harrison Ford who was also hacking away at the rhinestone ceiling. One day my friend ran into Harrison and asked how he was doing. Harrison had just finished shooting StarWars in front of a green backdrop. He said, "I think I just ended my carreer for good. I just finished shooting a sci-fi movie that had a script straight out of a low budget western." Â BRING ON THE COMPUTER ANIMATION AGE! Quote
Doug Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Geez Keith, is it just me or has your post count gone way up since you've been married? Â Hey Kevbone, just exactly what did you mean by "way ahead of their time"? Style? Technique? Cinematography? Content? Predicting the future? Quote
Bug Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Its not marriage. It's the new job. I am gazing into this box about 12 hrs a day. Might as well get some fun out of it. Â Quote

To add one more. Raiders of the lost Arch!  Oh good grief! Matrix? Raiders? Then we might as well add 'Starship Troopers'. The sequel was even better!  Actually, we must mention Buckaroo Banzai and Rocky Horror Picture Show since we're getting downright silly. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 It's funny that someone mentioned Brazil. How abou the original 1984, hmmm? Pretty much a spot on prediction of current events on most fronts. Quote
ScottP Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 OMG, who could forget "2001"? It accurately predicted so many things, like how fucking boring the future would be. Â "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that." Quote

The sequel was even better!  Actually, we must mention Buckaroo Banzai and Rocky Horror Picture Show since we're getting downright silly.   Uh...BIG difference between Matrix and Starship Troopers. Matrix used new technology that the film industry had never seen before to film this masterpiece. Definitely ahead of its time.  And remember this thread is about movies that were ahead of their time……not movies that were ahead of their time that did not suck. Like Brazil was mentioned…..definitely should be on the list….even though it is boring….yet interesting at the same time.  Quote

tvashtarkatena Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 This year. Google it. Â Oops, no facial moles. I remember "John Boy" playing the lead role, but it was Michael York. Still, it correctly predicted that people sporting helmet cuts should die before age 30. Quote
kevbone Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 How about Tropical Thunder? I think Robert Downey Jr. should win an Oscar for his performance in this outrageous comedy. OK…..maybe not ahead of this time…..but funny as shit….. Quote
