akhalteke
Right. Lets wait 25 years and then decide. There are some pretty horrendous presidents we have had to endure. I think GWB is right up there but he's got some stiff competition.
Skeezix
There are some pretty horrendous presidents we have had to endure. True... Reagan, for instance. Nixon. Clinton was good. We were a lot better off when Clinton was in office than we are today.

Mal_Con
I always thought James Buchanan was the worst (as he had the best chance to prevent the Civil War, but didn't) until now none can hold a candle to W in terms of awfulness

Jim
The worst: that's like shooting fish in a barrel. The Idiot has pegged the needle on disasters. No need to go into the gory details, they have pretty much been documented. It looks like Obama will win the White House. He has a hard job ahead of him. Â Carter: he was ok, the Iran thing really took over his last year. He made some very good progress on the humanatarian front, the Israel/Egypt pact, and actually started a good energy independence program. Reagan pulled the plug on that pretty fast. Oh yea - Carter signed the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.

tvashtarkatena
The standard GOP party line is to malign Carter, but Carter's mistakes aren't even in the same order of magnitude as GWB in numerical and cultural terms. Â Carter's signature personality shortcoming was that he couldn't find a way to work with the legislature, a deficit which made him unable to enact his agenda effectively. This worked for him as Governor of Georgia in pushing a reform agenda, but it did not work as President. Â If the country had enacted Carter's energy independence program 30 years ago, we would likely not be in the sorry predicament we are today regarding energy and global warming. Our 3 auto makers; our largest mfging industry, might not be collapsing. We probably wouldn't have gone into Iraq. Palin would not be able to bill herself as an 'energy expert'. The list goes on and on. Â Carter is also blaimed for being handed a post Vietnam economic hangover and oil shocks from the Middle East; both events largely out of the President's control. And of course the hostage rescue; a big deal in those innocent times. Today, we botch an operation like that about once a day.
