underworld Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 yes, get ON DEMAND cable... aren't you melting glaciers with all those video deliveries?? Quote
olyclimber Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 had it...the ON DEMAND movie selection was ABSOLUTE CRAP. Quote
olyclimber Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Bug A devastating earthquake releases a horde of mutant cockroaches with the pesky ability to start fires. And that's not good news for a small, isolated California desert town that stands in the way of these creepy-crawlies. The whole mess begins to obsess a science professor (Bradford Dillman) to the point of madness. This ecological disaster flick, directed by Jeannot Szwarc, was legendary horror producer William Castle's final film. probably not the "bug" you're recommending though Quote
Couloir Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I second Gummo. It's definitely an acquired taste but good nonetheless. Something on the more emotional side, Antoine Fisher is excellent. Quote
Couloir Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Also Crash the Paul Haggins version is really good. And this Crash from 1996 is good too. Although definitely a bit on the dark and twisted side. Quote
marylou Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Dirty Pretty Things, from Stephen Frears, my most favoritest director in the whole wide world. Quote
ClimbingPanther Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 (edited) The Third Man - delightfully evil film noir classic Murder on the Orient Express - more evil you can't help but smile at Charade - any film with the line "You fell for her like an egg from a tall chicken!" is so worth a watch Edited February 19, 2008 by ClimbingPanther Quote
dan_forester Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I thought "The Squid & the Whale" was great, but don't rent it if you don't like Bottle Rocket or Rushmore, etc. Quote
dan_forester Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 also the recent Masterpiece Theater production of "Bleak House" with Gillian Anderson was awesome, I'm not kidding. Quote

JayB Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 +2 on Harold and Maude. I remember seeing it in the theater when I was a kid. Brutal. Message and delivery were about as subtle as being strapped to a chair, the having the director roll a stage-amp from a Slayer show a couple of inches away before he starts shouting a four word summary of the message into the microphone over and over again until the bleeding out the ears requires medical attention..... "Triumph of the Will" has a light-touch by comparison. Quote

olyclimber Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 i'm not saying that movie is best on any technical merit, its just a sentimental favorite as something i saw when i was young, but i don't get your comment at all jay. Quote
