tvashtarkatena Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Yo Oregonians. I'm looking to hook up with 1 to 3 Mt. Jefferson climbers this spring. I've been on the mountain several times but only tried the summit once...my partner crapped out with AMS, though; no dice that time. I've got the ice/glacier/snow/ski/avi etc skills. PM me if interested in climbing this fine peak with a Seattlite. Quote
dougd Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I am considering an attempt on Jeff the weekend of 31Mar/1Apr. What is your experience with this mountain and access this time of year? Detroit ranger station "shirly" says access to trailhead may be iffy. No road plow and windfalls may be an issue... I live in Spokane Wa but originally from Portland and have cascade climbing experience. d Quote
ClimbingPanther Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 The name escapes me, but the trailhead to get to Jefferson Park was not accessible by car in early may of 2004, a terrible snow year. Quote
dougd Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 ty cobra, I'll probably try whitewater and in to Jefferson park and if conditions permit, try the whitewater glacier route. "shirly" intimated that up to 5' of snow might be found at Jefferson Park late Mar... Hope it's crusty... Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted March 2, 2007 Author Posted March 2, 2007 Sounds like we've got a party of 4 (ivan, dougd, rogerj, and yo). Would the weekend of Mar 31 work fo ebbybody? I'll be in Ptown the previous weekend and might head down to the Sisters for a ski trip mid week, back in time for Jeff. Quote
ivan Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 depends on how hung-over i'll be after mailing my fawk'n national board portfolios off! Quote
John Frieh Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Mt. Jefferson... this fine peak... world's tallest gravel pile what? Quote
gt5816v Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Is it too late to join this expedition? Yeah, what he said. I've summited Jeff several times. Quote
ivan Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Mt. Jefferson... this fine peak... world's tallest gravel pile what? no, just gravel pile - need it for the oregon merit badge though was hoping it'd still be mostly covered in snow in march all bets are off 'course if the weather's fine up north and there's a readily available mentally deranged partner around Quote
dinomyte Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Come on guys. Wait till September when it looks like the pile of rubbles that it is! Quote
gapertimmy Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 What are the regulations for tauntauns on Jeff? Also, can the PDX news roflhelicopters fly down there for live coverage of your climb? Quote
RogerJ Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 The weekend of Mar 31 is not a good weekend for me. I'll be out of town. I'll join you guys the weekend prior, and on the off chance the schedule moves, or San Francisco sinks into the Pacific Ocean, I'm in. How big a blue bag do you need for Taun-Taun poo-poo? -r Quote
