Chiwawa...sounds really cool when you say you are going up to scramble on Chiwawa...the dog??Wah-happen??

Or how about just confusing Mt Beljica (bell-hike-ah)

Somewhat related, a friend finds it rather humorous when approaching a town that is a persons name and you pass the "entering" sign...Uh, like, uh-huh-huh, we're entering Gina...

In Montana there's a lick creek. But in Montanese one pronounces creek as crick. So its like lick crick. ha ha.

I think there's also a bloody dick mountain on the Montana/Idaho border, which you pass if you're driving south on I-15.

From searching the Mountain Index on bivouac.com I have recently discovered Canada has a "Mt. Boofus" http://bivouac.com/mtn/MtnPg.asp?rq=MtnPg&MtnId=3155

and "Bumbly Mountain" http://bivouac.com/mtn/MtnPg.asp?rq=MtnPg&MtnId=4280

, not to mention my own favorite, "Cumsack Mountain" south of Waddington.

Elevation wise I guess you could say Big Wadd shoots up way over Cumsack! grin.gif

Are there any silly names like this in the Cascades? I know you guys got a 3 and 7 fingered Jack but what about a hairy-palmed "5 Fingered Jack"?? "Big Bosom Buttes" near Baker tongue.gif is pretty good too....

THREEWAY PEAK: Donna Top-Step might be interested in an expedition to climb this one.

NOBLE KNOB: Reminds me of a tasteless joke about rulers and inches.

BUFFALO HUMP: According to FB, this one was named by the Boyscouts. What are they teaching the kids in Scouts these days?

Aidan,

Good point on the french lesson. Actually, I believe "Teton" is taken from the same root word for "tit."

The early trappers, mostly french speakers, called the range the "tois tetons." The three tits. Imagine a three breasted chick...and just to be non-sexist, a three breasted guy.

Oh man...Not pretty...I'm out of here...

It recieved its curious name from a disgruntled explorer, who lost a leg after falling into a boiling pool.
