Alpine_Tom Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 I've always wondered about Bear's Breast Mountain. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 When I was in the sad place called Somalia in 93 we pepper sprayed or cs gassed the locals with what they referred to as "boofus". I wonder if there is a relation Was the mountain named by an angry Somali?? [This message has been edited by Cpt.Caveman (edited 06-14-2001).] Quote

LhotseDreems Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 There is a somewhat pathetic mountain over in Eastern Washington called "Whiskey Dick"... it hangs a little to the left. By Rainier there is the all time classic "Knob Gobblers Peak" .... sounds like the two should hook up. Quote
Rodchester Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 In the rockies..... Grand Teton means big breast. Quote
Backcountry Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 Chiwawa...sounds really cool when you say you are going up to scramble on Chiwawa...the dog??Wah-happen?? Or how about just confusing Mt Beljica (bell-hike-ah) Somewhat related, a friend finds it rather humorous when approaching a town that is a persons name and you pass the "entering" sign...Uh, like, uh-huh-huh, we're entering Gina... Quote
Dru Posted June 14, 2001 Author Posted June 14, 2001 Adding to what Backcountry just said I wonder how many times I have been driving down the highway and someone has said "Look we just went over/through DoNot Pass!" Quote
highclimb Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 Rodchester, Grand teton does not mean big breast...it means big nipple. GOD! GET IT STRAIT OK! Aidan Quote
Dru Posted June 14, 2001 Author Posted June 14, 2001 Aidan So you're taking High School French huh? Obviously you 'ave nevair been to Keybek eh? Quote
specialed Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 In Montana there's a lick creek. But in Montanese one pronounces creek as crick. So its like lick crick. ha ha. I think there's also a bloody dick mountain on the Montana/Idaho border, which you pass if you're driving south on I-15. [This message has been edited by specialed (edited 06-14-2001).] Quote
Alasdair Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 There is a mountain in New Zealand Named: Taumatawhakatangihangakoauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanataha No I am not making this up. This is an actual mountain name on the east coast. Dont ask me how to pronounce it. Quote
Dru Posted June 14, 2001 Author Posted June 14, 2001 Only mountain in the world where saying its name takes longer than climbing it Quote
haireball Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 there's one in south-central Idaho named "St. Mary's Nipple" - used to howl about that one in scouts ... Quote
Dan_Harris Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 In the Central Sierras Painted Lady is located near The Minister. Is something going on here? Quote
nolanr Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 It's not a mountain but 'ya gotta love California's Bumpass Hell thermal features. Don't even wanna know how they came up w/ that name. Quote
Dru Posted June 15, 2001 Author Posted June 15, 2001 From searching the Mountain Index on bivouac.com I have recently discovered Canada has a "Mt. Boofus" http://bivouac.com/mtn/MtnPg.asp?rq=MtnPg&MtnId=3155 and "Bumbly Mountain" http://bivouac.com/mtn/MtnPg.asp?rq=MtnPg&MtnId=4280 , not to mention my own favorite, "Cumsack Mountain" south of Waddington. http://bivouac.com/mtn/MtnPg.asp?rq=MtnPg&MtnId=5463 Elevation wise I guess you could say Big Wadd shoots up way over Cumsack! Are there any silly names like this in the Cascades? I know you guys got a 3 and 7 fingered Jack but what about a hairy-palmed "5 Fingered Jack"?? "Big Bosom Buttes" near Baker is pretty good too.... pope Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 THREEWAY PEAK: Donna Top-Step might be interested in an expedition to climb this one. NOBLE KNOB: Reminds me of a tasteless joke about rulers and inches. BUFFALO HUMP: According to FB, this one was named by the Boyscouts. What are they teaching the kids in Scouts these days? Quote
Rodchester Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 Aidan, Good point on the french lesson. Actually, I believe "Teton" is taken from the same root word for "tit." The early trappers, mostly french speakers, called the range the "tois tetons." The three tits. Imagine a three breasted chick...and just to be non-sexist, a three breasted guy. Oh man...Not pretty...I'm out of here... Quote
verticalswamp Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 I don't wanna meet the kid that can hump a buffalo. Not because of any personal resemblance, mind you, but that'd be one tough little unit. And dumb. Quote
