shit! 107 folks currently viewing the oregon forum - how you gon' get noticed for your command of fine swear-words over here in the lame-o climber's board forum?

Is it the fact of east coast climbers lost in the west that makes this such a national story? Is it that it follows so closely on the Kim family ordeal also in Oregon? Seems like this is getting much more attention than the usual rescue/accident incident.

Which of course is not to suggest that it's ever less than a huge event to the friends and family of the folks involved, or that climbers are ever less than concerned when these things happen, it's just odd to have such a bright light so narrowly focused on our humble abode.

Off,

Perhaps because it's winter....which is a more unsual time for this sort of thing (getting stuck on the summit of Hood anyway).

And Christmas is right around the corner...and 'tis the season for stories of people getting lost and (hopefully) reunited with loved ones.

Climbing accidents have been front page news since the Everest debacle. Anyone can get lost in the woods, but getting pinned down in storm near the summit of a peak... that's sexy! Stay tuned for the ABC's "High Altitude Rescue - The Mini Series" this spring!

definetly b/c of the kim thang - that was a great story in that it had all the elements of a movie, man vs. nature, epic survival, hope, salvation and then tragedy thing and the media was already in a frenzy over that and still doing details on that story when this one broke - and this story also has those uber-dramatic elements as jordop mentions - its a tidy story in the sense that it lacks the moral complexity or total boredom of an iraq story, or politics, or any of the other crap that's more important in the grand scheme of things but not so interesting to actually sit down and watch. it'll be a much better story if our boys come down from it in the end to make a tv-movie of the week and turn into spray-dogs.

as bad as you miscreants are, you have a lot of experience to offer.

perhaps they should show some of the spray threads, that'd impress em...
