Weekend_Climberz Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 That just ruined my week. Not that they post on this site, but my condolences to his family and friends. Quote
dalius Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 More info...  French Off-Piste News  Sounds like it may have been a slide, but death was the result of going over a 200m cliff? Nonetheless, totally sucks. RIP... Quote
Bronco Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 This was from the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche e-mail today:  "TRAGIC NEWS Doug Coombs died in an avalanche in La Grave, France yesterday. He was a friend and will be sorely and deeply missed. Doug was a skiing legend who cut his teeth in the extreme skiing game here in Bozeman. I heard about the accident last night and don’t have any more details. He is survived by his wife and son. I’m speechless. "  Really sucks. Quote

ryland_moore Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Man, that really sucks. I didn't know him well, but chatted with him often in the summer climbing at the local sport crags in Jackson often. He was always willing to chat with you and answer questions about his latest projects, ski descents, and journeys. Pretty humble man for what he had accomplished. I know he got a lot of people in to steep skiing and ski mountaineering. He will be greatly missed......RIP Doug Quote
summitseeker Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Friends from the 2006 La Grave Camp have started sending me pictures of Doug from this year. If you'd like to see 'Doug just being Doug', go here. Quote
