John Frieh Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Let's try and get a thread going similar to the Enchantment Area/Stuart Range Conditions thread for the Snoqualmie Pass area (tooth, chair, guye, etc etc). Post any approach, route, snow pack, etc etc beta here and let's try to keep it updated through the winter. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 (edited) I was in and around the Kendall Peak area on Sunday and the snow was nice and powdery near the 5000 foot mark. If you have ski's or snowshoes it would probably be worth the trip to Chair, or the Tooth for some nice winter like conditions. Edited December 7, 2005 by Weekend_Climberz Quote
gyselinck Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Just for refference: Â Snoqualmie Pass Point Forcast Quote
fenderfour Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 From a friend who was in there on 12/06: Â I was on the snow lake area today and the snow is knee deep with snow shoes. I tried to go up to the Tooth but I was too pissed with the snow close to my waist. I did manage to get to the rocky rim around snow lake. It was still an awesome day. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 I was on the snow lake area today and the snow is knee deep with snow shoes. Â It is rather deep, so floatation devices and some suffering are definately required. Quote
bcollins Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Heading to Chair tomorrow. I'll try and post afterwards Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 It's dark. Â And well below freezing baby! Quote
Alex_Mineev Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Just got back from Alpental. Alex and I climbed the WI3 route this morning. W2 pitch is thin wet and unprotectable until the belay station below the WI3 step. WI3 step is in, but not so fat. WI2 above is covered with snow and whatever below the snow is thin wet and unprotectable. It was warm at 7-8am. Now its quite above freezing. Other WI2 routes are in similar conditions. Quote
rock-ice Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Is this the WI3 to the right of rap wall and bryant buttress? Or is this alpental falls? Is the kiddie cliff in? Â Thanks. Quote
Alex_Mineev Posted December 9, 2005 Posted December 9, 2005 Alpental Falls. I didn't pay attention on the kiddie cliff  Quote
John Frieh Posted December 11, 2005 Author Posted December 11, 2005 As of 12/9/05:  Lots of Ice all over the Alpental backcountry.  Hotline: needs another week  Flow Reversal: It's in and primo  1 new line to the right of Flow Reversal needs to be done this weekend.  Thanks to all for adding to this thread Quote
philfort Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Kiddie Cliff didn't look too good today. Â I don't ice climb much anymore, but I thought these ultra super secret ones we skied by looked pretty good: Â Â Â Â oh, I'm such a jerk.... Quote
rock-ice Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 oh, I'm such a jerk.... Â No kidding... Â Thanks for the update anyways. Quote
pup_on_the_mountain Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Chair NF is totally NOT in as of Saturday (Dec 10). NE Buttress was sketch too (I'll post a pic tomorrow). No sign of ice. Overall, it looked quite bare, and the few sopts where there was snow, it made for some shin to knee-deep wallowing on really loose powder. Â Approach was not too bad with snowshoes. Quote
pup_on_the_mountain Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Chair NF and NE Butt (on Saturday): Â Â Â Â Close-up of (upper portions of) NE Butt: Â Quote
fenderfour Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I was up ther Sunday. So were A LOT of other people. Conditions were mostly as pup shows. A little less snow on the faces and gulleys. Snow was gloppy by 10:00 am. Â Damn this inversion. It was clearly colder at Source Lake than it was at the Chair Peak saddle. Â We walked in via the Source Lake trail and out via the Cat Track. Lots and lots of ice in the area, unfortunately most doesn't look ready to climb. The warmer temps up high should help this out, melting some snow so that it can refreeze down lower. Quote
Keithish Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 (edited) A few pics of ice at the pass Sunday: Â Edited December 13, 2005 by Keithish Quote
Squid Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Was up Monday night. Nice temps (twenties F) and maybe an inch or two fresh snow between 6-10pm. Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Was the skiing ant good? I almost went, but thought it would be icy. Quote
Squid Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 The groomed runs were fine- not icy at all, and getting better by the minute with the snowfall. Quote
Geek_the_Greek Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 The x-c was very nice at Cabin Creek on Saturday. Quote
