fenderfour Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 It's called Plano, Texas. Mile after mile of flat developed desert. The stripmalls are only outmatched by the overstated housing projects. The overstated housing projects are connected by two different turnpikes (tolled) called the "George Bush Turnpike". I thought that all of the spraying about back-water attitudes and racisim in Texas were a crock of poo. After spending a week in a city suburb of Dallas/Fortworth, I see the truth. It was a surreal experience. I spent one night in a North Texas "Yacht Club" tasting Washington wine out of paper cups. Another afternoon was spent at the Bass Pro shop bar, drinking their beer. We astonished the other patrons by downing a couple of "stouts" without wincing. On the other hand, those MF'ers know their steak. Have you found hell? Quote
Ratboy Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 I lived in Plano for 3 years. There's multiple reasons why I moved away from Texas, and you just named several. Quote
whidbey Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I visited Cherry point NC once.. would qualify for hell in my book. Gotta love the NW! Quote
whidbey Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Vistited Dallas, Fort Worth TX and had the same feeling.... flatland sucks Quote
TREETOAD Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 El paso / Juarez now that is hell on earth. we could smell the cattle feed lots from ten miles away. We went over to Juarez and within ten minutes of crossing the bridge some guy came running out of a building with his foot shot half off. We left sonn after that. Quote
archenemy Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I have been to hell, and it is Inside my head Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Denton. There is a 50 foot hill there. They apply the lofty appellation "promontory" to it, I believe. You can see at least 5 miles from up there. Quote
fenderfour Posted November 20, 2005 Author Posted November 20, 2005 Denton, TX sucked as well. It wasn't so hellishly developed as Plano. Quote
ScottP Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 19 years of hell... (Consider that a big night out in Taft is a trip to the cowboy bars in nearby Bakersfield...ugh.) Quote
whoohoonickieclimbs Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 I think Umatilla is 'not nice'-Ok I think that is hell in the NW. I grew up in LA....near MGM studios in the 80's.....that was slight hell.....and was born in the same hospital Michael Jackson went to when he burnt the back of his greasy head in that Pepsi comm. Now that is hell...... Hollywood....fake people with fake parts living fake lives in a cement city......hot city.......fun sometimes but no trees no mt's- no good air! Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 There is no hell. There is only France. -- Frank Zappa Quote
Dechristo Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I have been to hell, and it is Inside my head What she said. The state of hell is not geographic. Although, there are exceptions by political entity. Quote
JayB Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Pretty much anyplace East of Pikes Peak, with the exception of the greater White Mountain region in the Northeast. Any place with toll-roads is a strong contender as well. Quote
JayB Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 In WA - if we are restricting ourselves to what's in the city limits and the hinterlands - then Spanaway, Parkland, and Tillicum have got to be right up there. Quote
catbirdseat Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I'll bet that Hell, MI freezes over on a regular basis. I also bet that its residents have heard this quip before. Quote
Dechristo Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 There is also a burg in MI named "Paradise". In the 1960's, whenever climatological conditions permitted, a popular weatherman of a local tv station, Sonny Eliot, would proclaim, "it's hotter than Hell in Paradise". Quote
minx Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I believe that I'll contribute another TX locale for hell. Van Horn, TX. this little bit of hell is somewher in western TX. When you get to Van Horn, it's been at least a 100 miles since you've seen another car. when you leave the road is straigtht and flat for the next 100 miles complete with the reassuring sign "next services 93 miles". face it people, if you've chosen climbing as your passion in life, TX is just unacceptable. Why do you go there? Quote
selkirk Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 had the distinct displeasure to spend 2 weeks in Houston a few years ago. Worst place i've been in a long time! Flat, fugly, eeechh.. Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Which way I fly is hell; myself am hell. Quote
