svilar Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I need you guys to help me determine the most liveable town on the east side of the Cascades. Originally from Seattle area, but escaped to Colorado for good weather and less traffic. However, I'm missing friends, proximity to saltwater, and the Pickets. I need to come back. I can't handle constant rain and traffic anymore so looking for a town just on the other side of the crest. My girlfriend is somewhat of a hippie, so the place cannot be too stiflingly conservative. A good outdoor community (even if small) is considered a must. Help me come back to the Cascades! Quote
Paul_detrick Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 We don't want no hippies here in redneckville Quote
knotzen Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Leavenworth! I would be happy to live there. Quote
rbwen Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 (edited) If below is what you want then Wenatchee is not the place. Very rightward leaning, although progressive when it comes to some issues like alternative energy. Not hippie-ville...that would be more of Leavenworth. I just moved to Wenatchee from Bellingham two years ago and there is not much community in Wenatchee. Try wentacheeoutdoors.com rbwen From previous post: <<My girlfriend is somewhat of a hippie, so the place cannot be too stiflingly conservative. gyselinck Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Ellensburg has to many "cool kids" living in it. Theres just something wierd about Leavenworth, it all seems German or something. Wenatchee would be the place to be. Quote
sobo Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 CRACKIMA!!! All the drugs your "somewhat hippie" girlfriend could want at rock bottom prices! And Yakivegas has a "decent" outdoor community, and it's proximal to lots of good climbing and kayaking, and reliable skiing. Quote
Macson Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I didn't see anything about working....do you need a town where you can get a specific type of job? Or can you telecommute? Or are you independently wealthy, or fine with being poor? If I had the option, I'd probably live in Mazama, Winthrop or Twisp in that order. Anywhere in the upper Methow Valley is pretty much hippy town. My inlaws live in the lower valley, and are pretty conservative. They get a little annoyed with the folks up there...but I like it. If Eastern WA isn't a "must" then my town, Port Townsend, is hippyville for sure, and it's in the rain shadow so way more sunny days than Seattle. Quote
glm Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 My vote is for Winthrop, from a town POV, Leavenworth for it's proximity to great climbing and skiing. Either would be great - probably whichever will allow you to get work if you need to.... Quote
telemarker Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Washington's hidden gem: Bridgeport. Brush up on your Espanol, primo. Quote
chirp Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Dude, I vote for Usk, granite nearby and no Starbucks within 80 miles. Quote
marylou Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Twisp if you can bring your own money, Ellensburg if you're just regular folk. I think Wenatchee is going to get better in a few years. Quote
Doug Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Eastern Washington, as in east of the cascades, or truly eastern? Omak. You wouldn't want to live in Ephrata. Too many rednecks, right Paul? Quote
AlpineK Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Yeah I was thinking Omak or Tenaskit(Sp?) I don't know what you'd do for work. It's not the economic hub of WA, but it is a nice place. Maybe you don't need much though. Quote
