bigwalling Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Ha, I've freaked some tourists out in Yosemite. "No you can't climb up there unless you are drunk!"... they always are looking at me and asking "is that safe". I just reply, "No, but who wants to live forever". They always seem to move towards their car at that point. I like most climbing movies as long as it is hard climbing. Best shit was with Danno! Quote
Alpine_Tom Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 4.)how did you get the rope up there 5.) my favorite: did you get to the top? 6.)were you free climbing? 7.)who was your point man? 8.)"You're a climber? Boy, I've always wanted to climb Mt. Rainier." Quote
HeMan Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 Dont forget Cliffhanger. Stallone on a bluescreen tyrolean traverse was gripping. Quote

Ed_Hobbick Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Downhill Racer (ski movie) about the 1976 Winter Olympics is a good one. Quote
Alpinfox Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 If I'm asked on my deathbed if there is anything I want to go back and undo, my answer would be to not watch Vertical Limit. I'd like those 2hrs of my life back, please. A few friends of mine went to see that movie opening night at the Cinerama (or whatever that big theater is downtown). They wore head to toe goretex, wore harnesses and helmets, and belayed each other into and out of the seats. Quote

thatcher Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 ooh, i hate to admit this, but i am a film student in LA and my professor directed "the climb". Quote
Nick Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Subzero is the baddest I've seen. I liked the large Coleman lanterns everyone was using on K2. No one used headlamps, just these great big camping lanterns that you hold in one hand (leaving the other hand free for the ice axe). I did notice that Coleman was listed as a sponsor in the credits . . . this movie has too much badness in it to enumerate. Watch it! Quote
hopalong Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Just saw subzero. Holy Flirking Schnit. I felt like I was getting brain damage from watching that film. Quote
Bigtree Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Here's links to a couple of bittorrents with climbing/mountain themes (including K2 Ultimate High and Touching the Void in dvd and avi format). Can't vouch for quality as haven't downloaded yet. Couldn't find the recent Nova show on Denali but will post a link if I come across it. http://www.torrentspy.com/default.asp http://ts.searching.com/torrent/35090/PBS_NOVA_Everest_The_Death_Zone_XviD_AC3_www_mvgroup_org http://ts.searching.com/torrent/47851/Nova_Kilimanjaro_Africas_Highest_Mountain http://ts.searching.com/torrent/179020/K2_The_Ultimate_High_NORDiC_PAL_DVDR_BAH http://ts.searching.com/torrent/309245/Touching_The_Void_LIMITED_DVDRip_XViD_SCREAM Quote

iluka Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 The movie K2 which was out a few years ago was pretty lame but it was actually based on a play by the same name that had been out years earlier which was just great. Two man play. The entire story took place on a ledge on K2 after they were caught in an avalanche on their descent. The set was a rock face that went from the basement of the theater stage up to the rafters. There was actual climbing on the set as well as a 20 foot fall where one of the actors was caught by his pro. Great storyline and, unlike the movie, no hollywood ending. One guy climbed down, leaving his buddy to die from his severe injuries. Quote
fatswaller Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I'm surprised no one has mentioned "THE WHITE TOWER" with Lloyd Bridges as the superior nazi climber and Glenn Ford as the good guy american sap.Based on a fictional James Ramsey Ullman book. Its hilarious with the totally serious, fanatical Lloyd bridges saying "To rest is not to conquer". Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 How about that Ron Kauk new-age nature-fluff bit in the middle of Dosage Vol. 3? Definitely not what you want in the middle of a showcase of cutting edge climbing sickness. Quote
