John Frieh Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Even if someone did I think their track would be gone with in a day or two... Point Forcast - Stuart Range I'm down to cruise in... anybody else? Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Hmmmmmm.... wonder what the misses is wanting to do this weekend?? Quote
slaphappy Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 snowshoes are so 20th century, use a mountain sled, much faster... - Quote
DirtyHarry Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Someone should go bust a snowshoe track into stuart and report back on conditions. I did it last year, now its someone else's turn... Wet snow and rain. Wow. And I didn't even have to hike in there to know that. Quote
John Frieh Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Thanks for the insight Harold but the scope of this thread is approach and climbing conditions... not what the weather will be... Thanks anyways though Quote
DirtyHarry Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 On the approach you will encounter wet snow and rain. On the climb you will encounter wet snow and rain. But it doesn't really matter because you won't be going in there to climb anyway. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Maybe because its supposed to rain up to 9,000 ft this weekend. I know you're dumb, but I'm guessing you're not that dumb. Maybe I'm wrong though. Quote

kurthicks Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Bug and I went in towards Colchuck Lake monday/Tuesday with overly large packs. There is/was a trail broken to the trail junction. after that, we hit a 2" breakable crust with 2 feet of unconsolidated snow underneath. even with snowshoes we were breaking through the crust, sometimes producing a decent 'whumping'. then it snowed about 6" on Monday night. we sat around yesterday morning listening to at least a half dozen natural release avalanches coming from the Dragontail/Colchuck area. we turned around. on the way out we spotted triple couloirs, I think they look ok. gotta wait for better snow conditions though. maybe Bug will post a pic or 2. The road is gated. it's snowing again in Leavenworth now. Quote
Bug Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 (edited) I have renamed Wazzumountaineer. He is now Legolas the Snow-walker. It was a good workout but no climbing. Oh well. Here is a pic of Dragontail from near the trail junction. We went up the opposite side a ways to get a better view. Oh well. It's in the gallery. Edited December 28, 2005 by Bug Quote
Chad_A Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 That's a goddamned beautiful picture. Thanks for posting! Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Ohhhhhhh.... Alpine Porn, makes me wanna pork something!! Quote
gyselinck Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 Any updates out there on snow conditions? Quote
John Frieh Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I think Kurt was the last one in there... When you wanna head in? Quote
gyselinck Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 I would like to possibly hall a bunch of shit in, check stuff out, and maybe do a mellow route if things look good this weekend. Or something. Quote
John Frieh Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 You mean like leave a rack in there? Don't bother... their is already one there! Hey Kurt or Bug: when you went it their was a boot pack from the parking lot to the dtail cutoff? Did it keep going towards Stuie? Quote
Bug Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Yes. According to the trailhead register, they put in a Snowshoe pack to lake Stuart. BUT, when we were following it, it was already covered pretty well and it had a breakable crust here and there. It was better than nothing but not by a lot. Expect deep snow past the turnoff to Colchuck both ways. Quote
gyselinck Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 leave a rack, heck no, because i know what happens when people leave racks.... Who said I was talking about Stuie anyways, you bonehead. Quote
TeleRoss Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I'm probably going to be heading into the Colchuck Lake area Saturday night, so by Sunday morning sometime there will be a skin track in there...but only probably Quote
gyselinck Posted January 6, 2006 Author Posted January 6, 2006 Its raining, as usual, here in Ellensburg today. Cannot see Stuie, but I'm sure its snowing a shit load up there. I hate this stuff, what the hell is there to do? Maybe a little Vantage cragging or something. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 They have this sport where when it snows, or sometimes after it snows, you strap these long board-like things to your boots and slide around. They call this strange activity "skiing." You should maybe try it sometime. Quote
