knotzen Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 The most overpriced cities in America: 1. Seattle 2. New York City 3. Portland, Ore. 4. Chicago 5. San Jose, Calif. 6. Bergen-Passaic, N.J. 7. San Francisco 8. Middlesex, N.J. 9. Denver 10. Los Angeles No wonder I'm so poor. Oh wait, that's because I spend my money on climbing gear. http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/invest/forbes/P123785.asp?GT1=6706 Quote
selkirk Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 could be worse. You could be paying to much to live N.J. Quote
JoshK Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 LOL. Or Denver. I can say from living nearby that it is a seriously over-rated city. It's gorgeous 25 miles to the West but Denver itself is pretty so-so. Quote
catbirdseat Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 The definition of "overpriced" is the relationship of living costs relative to income. There is a reason why Seattle is overpriced. People want to live here for reasons other than monetary ones. Quote
minx Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 that's it! i'm sick and tired of this city being so expensive to live in. the price-gouging has got to stop! i can't take it anymore i'm moving to some place where income/cost to live ratio is more reasonable. i'm packing my bags and heading for dubuque, iowa! cj001f Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 The definition of "overpriced" is the relationship of living costs relative to income. There is a reason why Seattle is overpriced. Yes. The PNW economy and job market sucks. Among the highest unemployment rates in the nation - WooHoo! Low income, high costs = overpriced. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 it does suck that seattle's income doesn't compare. but ... you gotta admit, seattle does have a few things going for it that those other cities lack. Quote
archenemy Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 The housing market is one of the main drivers of this. I think this skews the numbers for people who rent (the rental market is very cheap right now) and homeowners who bought before the latest upswing and refinanced their loans for a lower rate. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 (the rental market is very cheap right now) cheap? why do you say that??? compared to new york city and san francisco - well, yes; but i wouldn't say that the rent here is cheap when compared to income. am i wrong? Quote

I hear the Enumclaw is a reasonable place to live. Ask Maria... Quote

Mike_Gauthier Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Ya, I've heard that even a fireman can't put her fire out! Why bother trying? Quote
JoshK Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I wonder if any of the girlies that buy that "firemen are hot" rumor haved actually bothered to stop by a firehouse and check out the standard firemen. Quote
JoshK Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Must be that $40billion monorail. One of the few things we probably agree on. Yes, our public transportation sucks ass. Yes, building more freeways is a retarted "solution." Yes, we should do more to keep single drivers out of their SUVs. Unfortunately the monorail is a stupid solution to a real problem. People wanted to vote "yes" on public transportation as a whole (which NEEDS to be funded) and instead voted "yes" for an idiotic project. Public transportation needs to be addressed regionally not through a small part of one city. I wonder how many people sit their idle going back and forth between west seattle and ballard (very little, I am sure) as compared to sit there in traffic going N/S on the I5 cooridor or E/W on the bridge cooridors. I would imagine the number is exponentially higher. Quote
AlpineK Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I'm not sure what the monorail has to do with the cost of housing. They tax your car tabs you dumbshits. Quote

Fairweather Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I'm not sure what the monorail has to do with the cost of housing. They tax your car tabs you dumbshits. The topic is cost of living, numbnuts. The cost of housing is only one component. Must be the drugs again, AK? Try to concentrate. Quote
