Bill_Simpkins
You know what I'm talking baout. The kind that comes on almost every mountaineering boot and outdoor shoe sold. They suck. Why? A) They create pressure points on the foot. B) They create space between the lace holes and your foot. C)The sheathe slips off the core. This is very annoying. And because of thise they don't last any longer than flat laces. D)They come untied easier. Take your favorite pair of mainaineering boots or outdoor tennies and put a pair of flat laces on them. You will feel the difference immediatly. You can get a tighter feeling fit but it will be more comforatble. They will fit and feel better! I just replaced some laces and couldn't believe the torture I've been putting myself through. Round laces are crap and a totaly market ploy because they cost 4x as much. Just ranting. Discuss. Cobra_Commander
You have not experienced shoelace frustration until you break a lace on a pair of La Sportiva Mythos. You best set aside a full day.
DPS
Round laces also come untied easier. I've taken 6mm cord, pulled out the core and used the sheath as flat laces. It works pretty well.
mec
Shit, my mythos laces are about done for..I don't want to spend an entire day rethreading them. Any hints? or should I just tie knots where my laces break and hope for the best.

Bill_Simpkins
Why is it that most boots and shoes come with round laces? They suck ass and cost more. It must be trendy.
olyclimber
It's about time somebody stood up and said this. This issue has gone on for long enough. It's time to say "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!!!"

Dru
Round shoeleaces fit through round grommets and eyelets better.
Bill_Simpkins
Round shoeleaces fit through round grommets and eyelets better. Actually, not on my footwear. The round ones get stuck when pulling them out. The sheath bunches up when putting them through or pulling them out. I re-laced all my shoes with flat laces last night and it was a total breeze. Dru
maybe if you didn't have fat feet you wouldn't have had to switch to the thong.
dkemp
I cant believe this has come up! its funny to me because this is one of my pet peeves - I hate round laces! I've ranted about it over the years and my friends, who have heard Doxey Rant #17 - the Round Laces Rant - just roll their eyes, like this ->
archenemy
I thought I was the only one who bitched about these. I just got a pair of Mythos and love them. How long does it take to blow through a lace?
Dru
How long does it take to blow through a lace? It depends on your lung capacity.
cman
Lacing the mythos is a pain but not too bad. just get 2 paper clips and fashion one as a little hook and the other straigt to push. also you might want to spend a few minutes to understand how they are actually laced up before you take them apart. chucK
... or just make sure you do them one at a time, keeping the correctly-laced one as a guide.

bunglehead
What's funny about this, is I have round laces on my shoes at work, and they come untied all the time. I hate round laces.
ScottP
"they come untied all the time" "Round laces also come untied easier" "They come untied easier." The answer to all your yipping.
catbirdseat
About half the people tie their shoes using a "Granny" bow knot. If you use a true "Square" bow knot, your laces won't come untied as easily, even if they are round.
Dru
If you can't tie your laces properly, maybe you should just stamp a big L for loser on your forehead and switch to "retard strap" Velcro sneakers
catbirdseat
My former boss was one such person. For some reason, I couldn't bring myself to call him a loser to his face.
