chelle Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Been enjoying the new Ray Lamontagne CD. This song is one of my favorites. How Come People on the street now Faces long and grim Souls are feeling heavy And faith is growing thin Fears are getting stronger You can Feel them on the rise Hopelessness got some by the throat you can see it in their eyes I said how come How come Everybody on a shoestring Everybody in a hole Everybody crossing their fingers and toes Government man spin his politics till he got you pinned Everybody trying to reach out to each other But they don't know where to begin I said how come I can't tell the free world from living hell I said how come How come all I see is a child of god in misery I said how come the pistol now as profit The bullet some kind of lord and king But pain is the only promise that this so called savior is going to bring Love can be a liar And justice can be a thief And freedom can be an empty cup from which everybody want to drink I said how come I can't tell the free world from living hell I said how come How come all i see is a child of god in misery I said how come Its just man killing man Killing man Killing man Killing man Killing man I don't understand Its just man killing man Quote

Had a friend, she once told me, "You got love, you ain't lonely," Now she's gone and left me only looking for what I knew. Mmm, I'm telling you now, The greatest thing you ever can do now, Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now, It's very easy just... Met a man on the roadside crying, without a friend, there's no denying, You're incomplete, they'll be no finding looking for what you knew. So anytime somebody needs you, don't let them down, although it grieves you, Some day you'll need someone like they do, looking for what you knew. John Frieh Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 [Verse 1] I once knew a nigga whose real name was William his primary concern, was making a million being the illest hustler, that the world ever seen he used to fuck moviestars and sniff coke in his dreams a corrupted young mind, at the age of thirteen nigga never had a father and his mom was a feen she put the pipe down, but forever yeah she was sober her sons heart simultaneously grew colder he started hanging out selling bags in the projects checking the young chicks, looking for hit and run prospects he was fascinated by material objects but he understood money never bought respect he build a reputation cuz he could hustle and steal but got locked once it didn't hessitate to squeal so criminals he chilled with didn't think he was real you see me and niggaz like this have never been equal I dont project my insurecurity's at other people he feeded for props like addicts with pipes and needles so he felt he had to proof to everyone he was evil a fever minded young man with infinite potetial the product of a ghetto ... capatalistic mental coincidentally dropped out of school to sell weed dancing with the devil, smoked until his eyes would bleed but he was sick of selling trees and gave in to his greed [Hook] Everyone trying to be trife never face the consequences you propably only did a month for minor offences ask a nigga doing life if he had another chance but then again there's always the wicked at new and advanced dance forever with the devil on a code cell block but thats what happens when you rape, murder and sell rock devils used to be gods, angels that fell from the top there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot [Verse 2] So Billy started robbing niggaz, anything he could do he'd get his respect back, in the eyes of his crew starting fights over little shit, up on the block stepped up to selling mothers and brothers the crack rock working overtime for making money for the crack spot hit the jackpot and wanted to move up to cocaine for filling the scarface fantasy stuck in his brain tired of the block niggaz treating him the same he wanted to be major like the cut throats and the thugs but when he tried to step to 'em, niggaz showed him no love they told him any motherfucking coward can sell drugs any bitch nigga with a gun, can bust slugs any nigga with a red shirt can front like a blood even Puffy smoked the motherfucker up in a club but only a real thug can stab someone till they die standing in front of them, starring straight into their eyes Billy realized that these men were well guarded and they wanted to test him, before business started suggested raping a bitch to proof he was cold hearted so now he had a choice between going back to his life or making money with made men, up in the cife his dreams about cars and ice, made him agree a hardcore nigga is all he ever wanted to be and so he met them friday night at a quarter to three [Hook] [Verse 3] They drove around the projects slow while it was raining smoking blunts, drinking and joking for entertainment untill they saw a woman on the street walking alone three in the morning, coming back from work, on her way home and so they quietly got out the car and followed her walking through the projects, the darkness swallowed her they wrapped her shirt around her head and knocked her onto the floor this is it kid now you got your chance to be raw so Billy oaked her up and grapped the chick by the hair and dragged her into a lobby that had nobody there she struggled hard but they forced her to go up the stairs they got to the roof and then held her down on the ground screaming shut the fuck up and stop moving around the shirt covered her face, but she screamed the clouts so Billy stomped on the bitch, until he broken her jaw the dirty bastards knew exactly what they were doing they kicked her until they cracked her ribs and she stopped moving blood leaking through the corpse, she cried silently and then they all proceeded to rape her violently Billy was meant to go first, but he ????? turn ripping her up, and choking her until her throat burned a broken jaw mumbled for god but they weren't concerned when they were done and she was lying bloody, broken and broos one of them niggaz pulled out a brand new twenty-two they told him that she was a witness of what she'd gone through and if he killed her he was guaranteed a spot in the crew he thought about it for a minute, she was practicly dead and so he leaned over and put the gun right to her head (Sample from "Survival of the Fittest" by Mobb Deep) I'm falling and I can't turn back I'm falling and I can't turn back [Verse 4] Right before he pulled the trigger, and ended her life he thought about the cold pain with the platinum and ice and he felt strong standing along with his new brothers cocked the gat to her head, and pulled back the shirt cover but what he saw made him start the cringine studder cuz he was starring into the eyes of his own mother she looked back at him and cried, cuz he had forsaken her she cried more painfully, than when they were raping her his whole world stopped, he couldn't even contiplate his corruption had succesfully changed his fate and he remembered how his mom used to come home late working hard for nothing, cuz now what was he worth he turned away from the woman that had once given him birth and crying out to the sky cuz he was lonely and scared but only the devil responded, cuz god wasn't there and right then he knew what it was to be empty and cold and so he jumped off the roof and died with no soul they say death take you to a better place but I doubt it after that they killed his mother, and never spoke about it and listen cuz the story that I'm telling is true cuz I was there with Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom to and now the devil follows me everywhere that I go infact I'm sure he's standing among one of you at my shows and every street cypher listening to little thugs flowe he could be standing right next to you, and you wouldn't know the devil grows inside the hearts of the selvish and wicked white, brown, yellow and black colored is not restricted you have a self destructive destiny when your inflicted and you'll be one of gods children and fell from the top there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot so when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never because the dance with the devil might last you forever Quote

John Frieh Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 at least chelle was good enough to credit the author of the lyrics That me free stylin' on the key board (I wish). Post 1 is Immortal Technique off his first album Revolutionary Vol. 1. Immortal makes Rage Against the Machine look soft with his lyrics... he is so politically active that the opening on his second album (Revolutionary Vol 2) is preformed by Mumia Abu-Jamal live from death row. Voted best NY underground MC in 2003. Post 2 is MF DOOM killing it on the Madvillain: Madvillainy album he put out this year on Stones Throw records. MF currently raps under the aliases Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, and is in bands KMD, Madvillain (with Madlib doing the beats), MF DOOM/MF Grimm (beats), and a few other side projects. This year alone MF put out 4 albums (MF DOOM: MM FOOD, MF DOOM: MM Leftovers, Viktor Vaugh: Venomous Villain [VV:2] and Madvillain: Madvillainy) ... any one of these tops any mainstream shit out there... past or present. Look for at least 2 of MF's albums in even mainstream critics top 10 lists for the year. If you want a CD copy of either of these (or other stuff) shoot me a pm… I hook ya up sucka! Quote

Bogen Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Light as the Breeze, Leonard Cohen She stands before you naked you can see it, you can taste it, and she comes to you light as the breeze. Now you can drink it or you can nurse it, it don't matter how you worship as long as you're down on your knees. So I knelt there at the delta, at the alpha and the omega, at the cradle of the river and the seas. And like a blessing come from heaven for something like a second I was healed and my heart was at ease. O baby I waited so long for your kiss for something to happen, oh something like this. And you're weak and you're harmless and you're sleeping in your harness and the wind going wild in the trees, and it ain't exactly prison but you'll never be forgiven for whatever you've done with the keys. O baby I waited ... It's dark now and it's snowing O my love I must be going, The river has started to freeze. And I'm sick of pretending I'm broken from bending I've lived too long on my knees. Then she dances so graceful and your heart's hard and hateful and she's naked but that's just a tease. And you turn in disgust from your hatred and from your love and she comes to you light as the breeze. O baby I waited ... There's blood on every bracelet you can see it, you can taste it, and it's Please baby please baby please. And she says, Drink deeply, pilgrim but don't forget there's still a woman beneath this resplendent chemise. So I knelt there at the delta, at the alpha and the omega, I knelt there like one who believes. And the blessings come from heaven and for something like a second I'm cured and my heart is at ease Quote

ChrisT Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 You just can't beat B. Dylan either It's alright Ma (I'm only Bleeding) Darkness at the break of noon Shadows even the silver spoon The handmade blade, the child's balloon Eclipses both the sun and moon To understand you know too soon There is no sense in trying. Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn Suicide remarks are torn From the fool's gold mouthpiece The hollow horn plays wasted words Proves to warn That he not busy being born Is busy dying. Temptation's page flies out the door You follow, find yourself at war Watch waterfalls of pity roar You feel to moan but unlike before You discover That you'd just be One more person crying. So don't fear if you hear A foreign sound to your ear It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing. As some warn victory, some downfall Private reasons great or small Can be seen in the eyes of those that call To make all that should be killed to crawl While others say don't hate nothing at all Except hatred. Disillusioned words like bullets bark As human gods aim for their mark Made everything from toy guns that spark To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark It's easy to see without looking too far That not much Is really sacred. While preachers preach of evil fates Teachers teach that knowledge waits Can lead to hundred-dollar plates Goodness hides behind its gates But even the president of the United States Sometimes must have To stand naked. An' though the rules of the road have been lodged It's only people's games that you got to dodge And it's alright, Ma, I can make it. Advertising signs that con you Into thinking you're the one That can do what's never been done That can win what's never been won Meantime life outside goes on All around you. You lose yourself, you reappear You suddenly find you got nothing to fear Alone you stand with nobody near When a trembling distant voice, unclear Startles your sleeping ears to hear That somebody thinks They really found you. A question in your nerves is lit Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy Insure you not to quit To keep it in your mind and not fergit That it is not he or she or them or it That you belong to. Although the masters make the rules For the wise men and the fools I got nothing, Ma, to live up to. For them that must obey authority That they do not respect in any degree Who despise their jobs, their destinies Speak jealously of them that are free Cultivate their flowers to be Nothing more than something They invest in. While some on principles baptized To strict party platform ties Social clubs in drag disguise Outsiders they can freely criticize Tell nothing except who to idolize And then say God bless him. While one who sings with his tongue on fire Gargles in the rat race choir Bent out of shape from society's pliers Cares not to come up any higher But rather get you down in the hole That he's in. But I mean no harm nor put fault On anyone that lives in a vault But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him. Old lady judges watch people in pairs Limited in sex, they dare To push fake morals, insult and stare While money doesn't talk, it swears Obscenity, who really cares Propaganda, all is phony. While them that defend what they cannot see With a killer's pride, security It blows the minds most bitterly For them that think death's honesty Won't fall upon them naturally Life sometimes Must get lonely. My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards False gods, I scuff At pettiness which plays so rough Walk upside-down inside handcuffs Kick my legs to crash it off Say okay, I have had enough What else can you show me? And if my thought-dreams could be seen They'd probably put my head in a guillotine But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only. Quote
Dru Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Black Wings (Tom Waits/K. Brennan) Take an eye for an eye Take a tooth for a tooth Just like they say in the Bible Never leave a trace or forget a face Of any man at the table When the moon is a cold chiseled dagger Sharp enough to draw blood from a stone He rides through your dreams on a coach And horses and the fence posts In the midnight look like bones Well they've stopped trying to hold him With mortar, stone and chain He broke out of every prison Boots mount the staircase The door is flung back open He's not there for he has risen He's not there for he has risen Well he once killed a man with a guitar string He's been seen at the table with kings Well he once saved a baby from drowning There are those who say beneath his coat there are wings Some say they fear him Others admire him Because he steals his promise One look in his eye Everyone denies Ever having met him Ever having met him He can turn himself into a stranger Well they broke a lot of canes on his hide he was born away in a cornfield A fever beats in his head like a drum inside Some say they fear him Others admire him Because he steals his promise One look in his eye Everyone denies Ever having met him Ever having met him Quote
Bogen Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Neil Young "T-Bone" I couldn't believe this was a real song... Just Another Line in the Field of Time Neil Young News Neil Young's lyrics have always been deceptively simple yet intricately complex. It is this simple complexity which make Young's lyrics so intriguing. Many argue that Neil is no Bob Dylan and this is quite true. Where Dylan's lyrics are often downright inscrutable yielding innumerable interpretations, Young's can sometimes border on trite and cliche or even downright silly. I never understood the cult following this guy has. Is it a celebration of the "downright silly," or what? Here is another of my favorites, though you would need to hear Sarah Brightman sing it to get the full effect. I don't know who wrote it, it's from a musical in the 30's or something. I used to sing this to my kids at bedtime, when they were young enough to like that sort of thing. Dreamers have mountains they will climb There are dreamers who don't believe in time Only dreamers have worlds where they can fly far away. Certain dreamers have kingdoms they will build, Filled with treasures and dragons to be killed Only dreamers have wings with which to fly far away. Some people dream of being rich, While others dream of being tall And there are people who don't dream at all. Dreamers have shooting stars they chase, There are others with nightmares they must face. Sometimes dreamers are forced to leave their dreams far away. And there are people who don't dream at all. Sometimes you need to take the time To find treasures and mountains we can climb. And maybe we dream to change the way that we feel, 'Cause to dreamers the real world can be unreal. Quote

sobo Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 We're Knights of the Round Table. We dance whene'er we're able. We do routines and chorus scenes With footwork impeccable. We dine well here in Camelot. We eat ham and jam and spam a lot. We're Knights of the Round Table. Our shows are formidable, But many times we're given rhymes That are quite unsingable. We're opera mad in Camelot. We sing from the diaphragm a lot. In war we're tough and able, Quite indefatigable. Between our quests we sequin vests and impersonate Clark Gable. It's a busy life in Camelot. I have to push the pram a lot. Quote
glacier Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Jim White "Handcuffed To A Fence In Mississippi" I'm handcuffed to a fence in Mississippi. My girlfriend blows a boozy good-bye kiss. I see flying squirrels and nightmares of stigmata. Then awakening to find my Trans-Am gone. Still, I'm feeling pretty good about the future. Yeah, everything is peaches but the cream. I'm handcuffed to a fence in Mississippi, where things is always better than they seem. Things is always better than they seem. I see the guitar that my cousin played in prison, floating with the tv in the swimming pool. I'm calling for the owner of the motel, then noticing the bloodstain on the door. I'm reaching for the shoes under the bushes, just in time to hear the sirens sing. I'm handcuffed to a fence in Mississippi, where things is always better than they seem. Things is always better than they seem. You know freedom's just a stupid superstition, 'cause life's a highway that you travel blind. It's true that having fun's a terminal addiction. What good is happiness, when it's just a state of mind? For in the prison of perpetual emotion, we're all shackled to the millstone of our dreams. Me, I'm handcuffed to a fence in Mississippi, where things is always better than they seem. Things are always better than they seem. Quote
