minx Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Sabertooth's thread in lost and found brough this to mind. i've often wondered often gear cached at the base of a route gets stolen. Or for that matter how often stuff left in the pack at the crag disappears. anybody have experience with this kind of thing? Quote
fern Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 someone stole my guidebook from the base of a crag once. I had rigged it with a clip-in loop, so I just wandered around the smoke bluffs asking if anyone had seen somebody with a guidebook clipped to their harness and sure enough I found the dumbasaboxofhair thief and punched him in the nose ... like if you are gonna steal something then at least HIDE it and LEAVE THE VICINITY! rbw1966 Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Some friends of mine came out of the grocery store in Terrebonne to find someone in the back of their truck going through their gear. They proceeded to beat the this out of the thief. Another 5 minutes and things would have turned out differently. Thieves suck. Quote
sk Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 I have had my heart stolen a few times. that seems to be the only thing I don't keep under lock and key. Lesson learned. Quote
chucK Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Three backpacks full of lots of stuff stolen from base of Smoke Bluff Knexshum way back in the 20th century. Hobbling around in our rock shoes, we couldn't find anybody to punch in the nose . Quote
iain Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 I just found out my credit card was stolen with an enormous amount of charges racked up on it. Quote
rbw1966 Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Looks like its going to be a killer prom for that guy and his robot. . . a girl robot. Quote
klenke Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 The irony of that Sabertooth situation is that he and I didn't really even need snowshoes yesterday. In fact, I didn't even put mine on all the way back to the parking lot. The boot/snowshoe/ski path is so compacted right now that's it's almost as hard as a summer trail. All that will no doubt change with the next dump. Quote
Dru Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 my entire rack is made up of gear "found" at the base of Smoke Bluff connection Quote
chucK Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I will forward your name to my homeowners insurance company that paid off the claim (and to my two buddies who didn't have insurance). Are you now the proud owner of a paint-stained Folger's Racing Team hat? Quote
chucK Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 That's right!! Name the correct color and win a punch in the nose Quote
klenke Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Keep threatening Dru like that, ChucK, and you're liable to get banned. Quote
fenderfour Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I left my entire overnight kit in my car fter an aborted attempt (and rescue) on Little Tahoma. I was a bit spent from 10 hours of first aid and carrying a climbing partner out on a litter and I didn't feel like dragging my gear inside. Some bastard got in my car and took it all, including my digital camera. sons-a-bitches... All one week before my first attempt on Rainier. Luckily the renter's insurance ponied-up at the last second. Quote
chirp Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Made a mess and took 100 cds...plus had the time to sort thru and discard all the ones they didnt want. Fortunately there was blood on the glass and seat, hope they get INFECTED! Quote

Thinker Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 My car was stolen about a month ago, and recovered 3 days later. Just last week I was cleaning up a bit and found a $20 bill under a rear floor mat that they missed. Bonus! Quote

rbw1966 Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I was sitting on the tailgate of my truck once, drinking beer with some friends, when two guys sat in the cab and appeared to be getting ready to fire up the cheeba. Whilst the guy in the drivers seat loaded up, the guy in the passenger seat began rifling through my glovebox and center console. I asked him "can I help you find something?" This was at the cc.com Smiffy fest. Quote
catbirdseat Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 I'm not a violet person either, but sometimes I turn green when I drink too much. Quote
Ryan Posted February 25, 2004 Posted February 25, 2004 Had my new skis stolen at Blackcomb a couple years ago. Pissed me right off. Quote
