Examples:

Opening beer with nut tool.

Digging icy snow out from under car, to make hole and insert jack, with ice axe.

Hanging engine block with borrowed rope from partner.

Portaledge in tree as summer backyard hammock.

Today's example: Bosch Bulldog, 1/4" bit, piton hammer and long ring spike to chisel geodes out of boulder.

On a number of occasions in college I had to rap into people's locked rooms that had a window open using a 2x6 in a doorjam as "pro".

Those two don't really count do they? They could be argued as climbing uses...

My old roommate used to leave her gear in her backpack(even tho she hardly ever climbed...) when she went to the library and then leave it visible under the table to try and attract men... rolleyes.gif

Another one I've heard of: climbing rope to pull a car out of the ditch.

I used a 3:1 to pull my dead car up the drive way when no wone else was around to push. My hand drill came in handy when I needed to put some holes into the concrete padio in the back yard. Hall bag makes one kick ass laundry bag.

My friend and I girth-hitched a bunch of natty old spectra slings together to tow his car off the freeway. It worked. I told him he should throw them out so he doesn't use them while climbing (because I knew he would) Sure enough months later he told me that he wound up using them on a route.

Hung christmas stockings with stoppers in stonework fireplace.

Million and one uses for wads of slings removed from the Tooth.

I think a much more interesting topic would be what non-climbing gear have you used for climbing purposes. wave.gif

Tied my dog up at Broughton with a #2 stopper so I could climb and she wouldn't jump on everybody.

Wore crampons while mowing the lawn to help aerate

Used rope and harness to belay my brother-in-law while he repaired damage caused by 24" of snow on the roof

Not climbing tools, but used seatbelt buckle to open beer, when rack was to far away (10' behind me)
