allthumbs Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Music copywriter pirates are now getting sued. Up to $150,000 per song. The music industry is given violators names from the ISP's. Download at your own risk. Quote
Metalhead_Mojo Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 they have been saying that for months...just scare tactics as far as ive heard. did you hear which ISPs are caving in? Quote
allthumbs Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 no, and I've heard the same for awhile now too. last nite on king 5 news they said a local seattle guy is now being sued. i guess it's finally happening. Quote
RobBob Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 woe is me, for listening to you fuckers advising to download mp3s luckily I didn't do it Quote
allthumbs Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 evidently music cd sales are down 1/3 due to free music downloading. no wonder the music industry is up in arms. money talks. Quote
Off_White Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Well, funny thing is, I've bought fewer cd's since Napster got shut down. I think the industry has more problems than free downloads, but it's always good to have a scapegoat I suppose. Quote
allthumbs Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 Off, it's cool to look for a smoking gun, but don't you agree that if your construction contracts were down 1/3 due to unscrupulous fuckers working under the table, that you'd be pissed off too. Quote
rbw1966 Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 The lawsuits made the front page of todays Oregonian although it noted that no cases have been filed in the US District Court for Oregon. I have little sympathy for an industry that is so corrupt it rivals the Bush administration in lies and deceit. I do feel for the artists. Quote
iain Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Apparently, even 12 year old girls are not safe. Quote
iain Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 note she was also living ni a city Housing Authority apartment with her mom and 9-year-old brother. Quote
allthumbs Posted September 9, 2003 Author Posted September 9, 2003 Bottom line boys, the law is the law. Abide by it, or break it, but don't bitch about the consequences if prosecuted. If you don't like a law, get involved and strive to change it. Quote
iain Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 and that's exactly what the RIAA wants to blast here, no one is safe from our draconian lawsuits, and we'll dropkick your kittens too. downloading music is a gateway crime! Quote
Fejas Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 I think boy bands Are the real problem to the hatred of the music industry... I think that it is time to change the direction of the music that is being masmarketed... Its time to stop the POP!!! Fuck middle schoolers and what they listen to... Fuck the hole find some guys that look good and want to be stars and make them into a band... Big producers need to start signing the more creative bands, the ones with new ideas in the music relm... "just my though ladies and gentlemen, just what I was feelin at the time." Quote

I appreciate the attempt to make a personal analogy, but that's already been the case ever since contractors had to be licensed. If my contracts were down a third, I'd have to consider an array of reasons, only some of which are external, and work on the internal pieces that could stand some improvement. In fact, that's a reasonably accurate description of my winter. So what am I doing spraying here, I've got a quote to work on. See ya'll later, thanks for the reminder Trask. Quote
scot'teryx Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 www.allofmp3.com the russian connection $1.00-$2.00 an album All license fees paid. Clean downloads screw the filesharing Quote
ChrisT Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 I thought they were going after the people who are distributing the downloads...at least that's what I understood from the news report this morning. Quote
iain Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 no one is safe from the RIAA. wheelchair users and baby harp seals are next. Apparently they were caught listening to some pirated Purple Rain back in 2000. Quote
Thrashador Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 How not to get sued by the RIAA for file-sharing. Certainly not fool proof but a good start... Quote

Ratboy Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 There are still ways to download mp3s free from RIAA scrutiny, if you know what you are doing. Using one of those file-sharing programs is just asking for trouble these days, but there are other ways. I don't download that much, usually just to check out albums before I buy them -- there's just too many one-hit albums out there -- but I absolutely refuse to buy any new CDs from these fuckers. The only CDs I buy are used from either local used CD stores or on eBay for the hard-to-find stuff. Fuck the RIAA. And it's just a matter of time before truly anonymous P2P sharing systems are developed. Quote
gapertimmy Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 When is itunes going to be available for PC users? Quote
iain Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 heh that's a cunning move Apple has made. The iTunes music store is a trojan horse to get PC users to buy iPods. The iPods are trojan horses to get people to buy Macs. The music store will eventually be available to PCs. iTunes the app kicks ass though, too bad it is not for PCs, doubt it ever will be. Apple's not making jack on the music store yet despite the massive downloads, but it's only a matter of time. when it opens up for PC users, they are going to cash in. Quote
