Ursa_Eagle Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Just a heads up: the bergschrund is open now, not very wide, but prolly not jumpable anymore. The snow bridge we crossed on Sunday felt really unstable (snow was really soft), and we decided not to bring all our newbies across. I'll have more info from when I'm up there again tomorrow. Quote
iain Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 please keep us updated I must have this information by the hour Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted April 30, 2003 Author Posted April 30, 2003 I'm just trying to give a heads up because this is the time of year that people will start asking about conditions. We were in a white out with 20 foot visibility on Sunday, so that's why I said I'd give more info after tomorrow (hopefully have better visibility and more info.) Quote

ryland_moore Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Surprisingly, it has been open for a while. Easy to pass though on the far left (at least it was last week). Quote
MtnHigh Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Calling all cars....Calling all cars. The berg is open in the Hood. On duty patrols respond to the vicinity immediately. Officers are to proceed with caution. Â Quote
iain Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 to simply say it's open or not is not enough. I demand a measurement in centimeters how wide it is on a daily basis, and what is the overall load capacity of the snowbridge Quote
b-rock Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 and you could add that information to your south side signature... Quote
Winter Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Christ we should just get the sherpas to build as a ladder bridge at the beginning of the year and then we'd all be safe. Quote
iain Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 and a webcam. will that fat dude make it over the schrund? I bet one beer he will pop through. that would be some serious entertainment. Quote

Winter Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Could you at least perform a miracle and give DFA a personality to restore my faith? You seem to have royally fucked things up in the last 2000 years or so. Quote
ChrisT Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 Sheesh! I do the best with what I have to work with! Quote
texplorer Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 I wonder if you could fit a helcopter into the shrund yet? Â Ian, I'm putting you in charge of the schrund-cam. Quote

iain Posted May 2, 2003 Posted May 2, 2003 if I am going up again on that route this year it will be because I am forced to. Quote

iain Posted May 2, 2003 Posted May 2, 2003 erik I know how long you've wanted to send that route. keep working at it friend, one day you'll find yourself at the chains! Quote
skyclimb Posted May 3, 2003 Posted May 3, 2003 Been awake for 30+ hours. Tired! TIred!Tired! South side sunrise on summit. Shrund is no problem. Traverse left. Trail up the hogsback is a TRAIL. Very gentle. 50+ winds on top, but nothing out of the ordinary. Good climb. Quote
youngprofessor Posted May 3, 2003 Posted May 3, 2003 (edited) skyclimb,  you're lying about that bergshrund, and i advise that you quit tyring to minimize the hazzard presented by such a problem. i was up there today on a training run, and the bergschrund was definately a problem for any climber. the wind wasn't as strong as you say, either, so quit trying to boost up your ego by lying again.  Dan   ===  Sorry...skyclimb. i tired to do this, but even though i posted it...i just couldn't keep the post up without this edit. guess it's just not me to call someone i don't know, a lyer (without rock solid evidence, that is).  good job on your climb. at least you were out doing sumthun, while i was frigg'ing slacking here in front of my puter. congrats, and way to fight through that front coming that was headed your way! wish i had been there with ya.  nuf said.  yp Edited May 3, 2003 by youngprofessor Quote
