specialed Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 My two friends did encounter a human made problem while camping- a bunch of inconsiderate punks blasting hip hop from a portable radio for a good part of the night. Regarding AlpineK's comment about burning signs- shame on him. I don't have any objections to campfires as long as they are in safe established places and people don't gather firewood locally. If people would all lug it from home that's fine, but too many people go out and grub up all the sage brush to burn and that sucks. Quote

If I'm ever there and find a boom box, I'll just go down by the river and look for Winter's 18 year old gals. Quote

catbirdseat Posted March 24, 2003 Author Posted March 24, 2003 The San Juan 21 Sailing fleet had a big bonfire of driftwood at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club a few years ago during our Wester National Championship regatta. This one 17 year old kid kept piling it higher and higher. The flames sored 20 ft in the air. Finally the fire department came and put an end to our fun. The 17 year old fellow carried the nickname "Sparky" ever after. Quote
AlpineK Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 Yep, it seemed like such as good idea at the time, but I froze my ass off the next AM. Quote
iain Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 dude probably wound up at Texas A&M for college Quote
catbirdseat Posted March 24, 2003 Author Posted March 24, 2003 Sparky was an engineer if I remember correctly. Smartest kid I've ever met and a talented sailor. I'd bet he would make a good climber too, if he tried it. Quote

Paul_detrick Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Chuck, I have beat the ticket down there, Fred and I both got one. You can do it thru the mail, you have to buy one, send a copy of receipt, and bs to jugde and you may get droped. I told them I buy one every year, and a hunting and fishing license, which comes with permet. It was a week or too after you where to get new ones. Its worth a try. Quote
catbirdseat Posted March 25, 2003 Author Posted March 25, 2003 Isn't a ticket $66? That's pretty harsh. I didn't have a sticker when I went so I parked up the road from the sign at the feathers. Quote
Dave_Schuldt Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 The choss is fine on a weekday, not verry many targets. After watching a rescue I will never climb there on the weekend again. The place is realy cool in may when every thing is in bloom. Quote
Norsky Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 We camped there ONCE. My friends dog ate some human shit and puked it inside the tent at 1AM. Neat! Quote

MysticNacho Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Went to vantage a month ago and camped next to a bunch of hillbillies who kept shooting the cliffs opposite the feathers with their shotguns well into the night, shouting "f*&^ ya! wooooo!" well into the night. That you and yer pals, Trask? Quote
