    Drag-on tales

nice tr chris. Can't take credit for the steps in the 3rd C, just as we got to the top of the 2nd there was a party of 3 that topped out on the n. face route ... they kicked the steps up the 3rd for us. Thanks guys
  4. On Sunday Frank, Jeremy and I did TC. I can't imagine the conditions being any better than how we found them. Great day, great climb, and great partners!! These photos are a combination of Frank's digital pics and my scanned photos. Dragontail from camp Plenty of room to pass at the start of the 1st couloir Jeremy in the 1st couloir 1st pitch of the runnels Slabby 2nd pitch of the runnels Start of the 3rd pitch More of the same Break time at the top of the 2nd couloir Near the top of the 3rd couloir Traversing the summit ridge Summit photo Dragontail wasn't enough - Frank goes bouldering
  5. I've got a little british guide book called Bernese Oberland - Selected Climbs by Les Swindin. You're welcome to borrow it -I'm on the east side. Not too far from Interlaken is the mtn village of Grindelwald which is just below the Eiger, Jungfrau, and Monch. There is a train that runs through the eiger and terminates at the highest elevation of any train station 12k-ish I think. The train stops midway through the mtn at some windows that look out onto the north face, really impressive. Anyway if you're not into doing the nordwand , there are some easier routes up the eiger. The mittileggi ridge is the left skyline. The approach is to buy a train ticket !! and exit the train midway through the eiger, and walk through a tunnel to the eiger glacier, then acsend some scrambly loose rock (to 5.easy) and a ledgey traverse to the ridge. There, on a very narrow ridge is an alpine hut, complete with solar panels, a rain catching cistern, bunks with wool blankets, a propane stove, and the real kicker - a shitter that dumps out onto the nordwand. I didn't get much farther up the ridge than that as the fixed ropes on the tricky bits of the ridge that were supposed to be there according to the guide book weren't, since I was alone I bailed. It's on the tick list if I ever get back to europe. There's also a ton of via-ferrata stuff that might be worth checking out. If you drive through Bavaria on the way to switzerland you could do the Zugspitze which is in Garmich-Partinkirchen (sp?) there is a via-ferrata route to the summit. Buy a ticket on the ski tram for an easy descent. Have fun on your trip.
  6. On Saturday Tim, Frank and I did Colchuck under a bluebird sky. Here are some pics. Colchuck from the lake Traversing to the base of the couloir Looking up the couloir from the entrance Nearing the top of the couloir Tim catches some ice Heading up the west slope of the north buttress Stuey on our right Nearing the summit Final bit of rock to the top Squinting into the sun on the summit
  7. I just got a helium to replace an old synthetic lost-all-its-loft bag. Beats me if the 900 fill is hype or not, but the thing is way light, and compresses down to almost nothing. I normally sleep fairly cool, so I'll see how warm it is this weekend.

  9. I don't know the exact distance from the dam, but the distance from the main road turn off is 13.9 miles to the parking lot. When I went in January I called the local climbing shops and asked for conditions, they were real helpful and had good beta - you could try them. If you go, post back here with a tr. Oh and I'm sure, the dem's are going to get their ass kicked in 04 just like they did in this past mid term.

Dude you're a fuckin clueless loser. Language has meaning. Words have consequences. Have you ever read Orwell? Do you know the difference between hyperbole and self delusional insanity? I bet all you lunatic, america hating, pot smoking, hippies wake up every morning, look in the mirror and say: Bush is a dictator. Ashcroft is a Nazi. America is a terrorist nation. blah, blah, blah. It might make your drug addled brain feel better but it doesn't make it true.

God dam it they better share. GW is sending over a special envoy to retrieve the goods to bring back to Camp David for analysis. Maybe they sould send it to the Muir Hut. I'll make the trip up. If you go tomorrow, would it be "Muir on Saturday"

Hey NxN, explain to me how any diplomatic efforts could have persuaded France to vote our way. During the negotiations for 1441 DeVillipan told Powell to his face that France would support a war if Iraq refused to comply. Powell believed him, DeVillipan was lying. Schroeder (a teenage communist with ties to the red brigades) used anti-war rhetoric in the german national elections in a cynical ploy to win reelection. It was a Dick Morris-like triangulation effort, attempting to peel off enough support from the communist remnants in the east to ensure victory. Like all cynical ploys they don't work for long and his party has since lost huge in mid term elections. So, what policy, what diplomatic effort could have possibly convinced the unconvincable to support us at the UN? (Completely leaving aside the question of why so many people think we should subordinate our security to this body)

Hey Dave, You do know that Robert Byrd was a grand wizard in the KKK don't you? I find it kind of odd that a good liberal like you would tolerate a guy like that. Check this out. ps. what are all you whining bleeding hearts gonna do when it turns out all the mean spirited, war mongering, conservatives were right all along about this war? .. oh nevermind, you folks are never any good with reality.
  16. That would be the shit !! Dan Rather interviews one of Saddam's surgically enhanced body doubles.
  17. "Saddam" tonight Saddam and Dan
  18. I bought mine from Northernmountain.com It seems they only have the 2 door model as a blem right now. But they've got the green I tent for $446: http://www.northernmountain.com/pgi-ProductSpec?50170,7 note: copy and paste the url (ubb code doesn't like the comma) I'm sure you could check other online sites to find the best deal. I don't know if bibler sells blems directly or not.
  19. I have an I-tent and have no complaints. One thing you might consider is buying a cosmetic blemish. I saved almost 2 bills, and 3 years later I still can't figure out what the blem was.
  20. Ok Dave, I'll bite ... This article shows some of the soul searching that has been going on among the intellectual left. Or at least that part of the left that is still willing to entertain the notion that they might have been mistaken in the past. But the author seems to fall into the trap that many (most?) opponents of the war have - namely they've let their overwhelming hatred of GWB cloud their judgement. I'll make a confession here. I despised Bill Clinton. All you folks on the left that dislike gw because of Florida, or because you think he's dumb, or because you think he was born with a silver spoon have no idea how much many of us on the right hated BC. I let this cloud my judgement. I opposed Bosnia and Kosovo because it was BC that was president. I was in Bosnia, I saw the good we were doing, but I rationalized away my opposition to the policy anyway. I was wrong. Do you guys think that maybe, just maybe, you are wrong about this war? Maybe your blind hatred of the president is clouding your judgement? I'll leave you with the money paragraph from the article you cite, and ask you if you agree with it's premise:

What do I think? I think I need to get a beanie cap and start bouldering at the UW so I fit in better with all the peach fuzz around here! btw, how old do you have to be to be considered an old guy? (maybe I'm still safe)
