    Cats?

What? What? I think he's talking about a move, using opposing hands, named after the legendary Frenchman of Les Callanques, Gaston Rubafet. I think there was a thread about the move a few months back. Arms and hands in front of chest, palms out, thumbs down, pull outward against insides of vertical crack. Opposition. ...sobo
  2. pindude has it right. I've got basically the same set-up, except I used duct tape for the closure. The reflective tape is a good idea, tho. May have to retrofit. Storing away from light is better for the ribbon, but then, I have an unlimited supply (free) of that stuff (as long as the Party Chief doesn't notice the supply drain...). ...sobo

    Not guilty

I prefer mud wrestling with women. When I turned 21 (eons gone by), a bunch of my "friends" won the auction of the last match of the night in some Irish bar in LA, which pitted two lovely bikini clad ladies with yours truly. I had to say, the drunk lost. But boy did I have fun anyway!

Two related sites are Randy Cassingham's "This is True" and "The True Stella Awards", for those of you who like REAL urban legends. this is true and True Stella Awards

I don't know... efficiency, maybe? He's ready when you are.
  10. D. B. Cooper?
  11. hmmm... Don't know who it was your friend talked to. And it very well could have been closed two weeks ago. I did see a party at RC and a party at Moon last weekend on my way up to Goose Egg. No one was at Bend when I went by. And the "Closed" sign *was* up at RC last weekend. I've known John a while now, albeit not really other than to get closure beta. When I first started calling him about 10 years ago, he did come off kinda pompous back then, like someone who had control over something you wanted, and knew it. You all know the type. He's mellowed out quite a bit now. He was quite pleasant on the phone with me this morning. Sorry your friend's encounter wasn't more agreeable. It's always aggravating when people in power start to lord it over the rest of us proletarians. My $0.02
  12. Ditto what rm said. Too short, too flimsy.

    Gerbils?

Now that's what I was after, a little banter that won't hurt anyone's feelings. Thanks, I needed the lift this a.m.
  14. Yeah, it's Triumph, the Spoiler. Made the rounds around work here at Christmas or so. What a hoot! ...to poop on!
  15. NEW BETA ON CLOSURE!! THERE ISN'T ONE! I just got off the phone with John, who is just back from a training seminar. He explained that the answering machine message is out of date, and he hasn't had a chance to change it yet. There is one occupied nest of Golden Eagles between the Bend and Royal Columns. It is the only nest in the Tieton. It is marked so that climbers/hikers can see the signs from the riverside trail. THE TRAIL IS OPEN TO RC. JUST STAY ON THE TRAIL. He said that he will change the message and update the website info soon, when he gets the time. Otherwise, all climbing areas in the Tieton are open, so you all can start lining up.
  16. OK, here's what the message says on John's answering machine... "(paraphrased)...Tieton cliffs are closed until April 15 for Golden Eagle nesting. If nesting occurs, signs will be posted indicating continued closure from April 15 to July 15. All closure signs will be removed after July 15..." ...sobo
  17. The sign at the site of the old bridge at Royal Columns say "...closed Feb. 1 until further notice..." RC closes for a period of time every spring, like clockwork. Usually opens by May, tho. Also, from personal conversations with John McGowan, it has been my understanding that the Tim Pond wall area HAS ALWAYS BEEN OFF LIMITS TO CLIMBING. Big fine if caught over there. The Bend, Moon Rocks, Wildcat Creek, The Cave, and Goose Egg are all open. ...sobo

    Gerbils?

What do we think about having gerbils on the trail? Paper towel tube or no paper towel tube? Duct tape or no duct tape? (just stirring the pot; spray-suit is on )

    Anchorage climbing

And the vomit from the tourist babes...
  20. Neoprene would not at all be considered "waterproof". Wetsuits and NRS's paddling gloves are made of neoprene. The way neoprene keeps the skin warm is that it accepts water into its open pores, where the body warms it and keeps it warm. A truly waterproof fabric would be urethane coated nylon, rubber, or some such. 'Course, then it doesn't breathe.

    Which 4WD SUV?

Yeah, the clearance is lower the bigger those Fords get, unless you upsize the tires. Is this new vehicle going to be the "prime mover" for your family, or do you have an alternate, 4-door model for family ventures. If you have another 4-door, I'd get the 2-door Sport.

    Which 4WD SUV?

Those Expeds and Yukons and shit like that are just too damn big.

    Which 4WD SUV?

If it's paid for and not costing you much of anything at the shop, that's what I'd do. My Expolder is going on 9 years old this fall, and still looks great (except for all the brush scrapes in teh paint job) ...sobo
  24. No such ice climbing glove exists. Seriously!

    Which 4WD SUV?

Exploder. Not as big as Expedition or Excursion (or competitor's makes), uses less gas, rides pretty nice at 65 mph, reasonable ground clearance, good visibility over the hood, low maintenance costs, (both of mine have been, at least), room for four, safe. I'm on my second 2-door (Explorer Sport), but am looking now at a 4-door, what with the recent family addition. You didn't say how small the 2 backseat riders are, RobBob. If they're still in car seats, don't go with the Sport (my back is killing me!!). ...sobo
