  1. dibs on the two longer skins.
  2. hell mother-fuckin' yeah. Awesome, amazing story. These guys deserve a round...
  3. Quick random thoughts: xc skiing is where it's at. That composed 75% of my skiing this season. Overall, this whole thing seems to point out something that bothers me about our (outdoor recreation) culture: "Bigger is better", "go big or go home", "lay it on the line", "man up", "the rewards go to those who risk". We get this message from marketing and we perpetuate this message in our media. How mnay times have you seen people caught in avalanches in the ski movies. Alot. That (directly/implicitly/purposefully/unintentionally, what ever) endorses/encourages/celebrates high risk behavior. And without equally representing the negative effects, leads to biased (unsafe) decisions. Sort of like ads with the wrong price. "These sort of freak accidents happen". As with Tvash, it's what the news is saying but this sounds pretty sketchy to me. And the potential conflict of interest w/r/t her sponsorships makes me pause... It's not good for business to say "predicting avi hazards turns out to be a lot harder than I thought.. I may want to ski less (aggressively)..."
  4. My condolences to those left behind. Dave
  5. Very cool. I particularly like the "tracer" effect used with one of her base jumpings.
  6. I like the kids area at the new SG because it keeps the rats out of the regular area. Unattended kids and bouldering are a combination that spells disaster.
  7. Regardless of the fact you plan to use it infrequently or climbing instead of skiing, when the shit hits the fan and your freaking out because your best freind is going to die soon, you want the best tool to get them out. Don't buy a cheap parachute because you skydive infrequently.
  8. Props to boulder-people because it seems like hard shit, but that's funny!
  9. And right after such great pose, the guy butts in with "pics?"
  10. Headed over to peshastn for a party and would like to hit up some kick and glide or maybe so low key road touring. Anyone know conditions well enough on the east side to suggest something (a flattish, not snowmObiled road w/ snow) between stevens pass and rayrock springs? Anybody know what chiwachum cr trail is like right now? How about smithbrook? Thanks! Dave
  11. Check your pm's in five minutes....
  12. I've got the 1st edition fazio-rhicard book.. Way old and out of date. Used copies of the 2nd edition start at 40. Want to loan me your yours? Pm me. Dave

When it leads to the endangerment (and mastication) of others, I'd say there should be punishment. Oops! Edit. Are you reefering (ha!) to the "felony" part, or that it's illegal in general?
  15. Notice a lot of people above have given the nod to Metolious TCU's. Says something there. Can't speak to the new design (haven't bought any new cams in ten years or so), but I always am using the blue, yellow, orange, and red tcu's (most of these are a 3-cam size.... ) My thoughts are the 3-cam sizes fit more places, better, than the 4-cam units. Placements per weight ratio for TCU-type cams much higher than larger cams. I prefer the u-cable setup on cams over the single stem... better dexterity while I'm making placements. I don't like the two finger triggers compared to the single, loop trigger on tcu's. My thoughts...
  16. You talking about the cops or the protracted. My sympathy for people getting smashed up at protests is pretty minimal when it's clear whAts going to happen and they still go.....
  17. There was a pair of tan mythos hangIng at the sign sunday last weekend. Maybe these were yours?
  18. Hey Mike: I think Option 1 is better than Option 2. I know that in rigging arbor systems, a block (pulley) is prefered to drapping over a limb (no pulley) in part because it reduces the impact force and overall stress on the anchor (the tree top). I think you're getting at it with this: "allows forces to transmit the entire length of rope out"
  19. I wonder if he did a lot of stairmaster?
  20. Is there just no way to review the chronology of this saga?

  22. The military produced a boatload of books on field engineering. They outline the basic dimensions and methods for using basic materials and construction techniques to build no-frills things like bridges, spar pole derricks, bridge abutments, foundations, etc. It is the military, and I assume there is some "quick-and-dirty" involved, but you might check it out (particularly the spar pole idea....) Good luck!
  23. Where's the link?
