  1. Sony's also have alot of proprietary buses & hardware. I've a Dell Inspiron. It's heavy, but nice to do real work on for an extended period of time. The ultraportable laptops are so cramped they suck to work on for more than 30 minutes.
  2. No, the section I'm referring to was discussing water quality outside the Sierra Nevada(which is where the Cascades are), where concentrations can reach 1 cyst/L
  3. Gee "one would have to consume over nine liters of water to have a 50 percent chance of ingesting 10 or more cysts." 9 liters. I drink that in a day and a half. Now I feel secure
  4. You forgot the Crisco
  5. Is that 2 Velcro Gloves up?
  6. I too wish my employer believed in America. I don't believe the best way to grow and support American industry is by subsidizing industries that can be done better, cheaper and quicker elsewhere.(bagging chalk being the epitome of this) That's the path Europe's taken and it (with few exceptions) isn't leading them to success. By keeping jobs such as bagging chalk local Metolius inefficently deploys their capital - which could be used developing new products, as an example, making them less competitive. Innovation - both in design, and manufacturing is the way the 1st world will suceed.
  7. Keep those high quality jobs here

www.smugmug.com - it's not free, but at $29.95 a year, cheap. Easy to upload, reliable.
  9. Online topos? Or where you can order the paper maps? Several places sell the paper ones. www.omnimap.com for one. As this recent expedition showed: http://climbing.com/news/remotepat/ Depending on where your going, the maps arent' much use. For English language guidebooks: Lonenly Planet Trekking in Patagonia Bradt Guide Biggar - Guides to the Andes (2, Trekking & Climbing) Kearney - Mountaineering in Patagonia Jill Neate - Mountaineering in the Andes Old AAJ's
  10. Maybe in Colorado. There are alot of Summit registers that are interesting, many with historical value. Like the BC Sierra ones - before some no good fuckface went about removing them REMOVING THE ORIGINAL REGISTERS
  11. There are several English language guidebooks. Try Amazon.
  12. Your going to acquire your Chinese liason officer in Nepal? A geography lesson may be in order.
  13. jjd- I have no problem with harvesting timber. I have a problem with the government constructing and maintaining a road, gratis, for the extraction of timber sold at sub-market rates. Then keeping that road closed to the general public for "safety". Too often recreation is the redhaired stepchild to extractive uses of the National Forests - and recreation is increasingly asked to pay more of their share ($15 a night for a campground spot!) when the logging subsidies show no sign of slowing.
  14. It's a subsidy left and right can agree needs to be ended. Now how about agriculture subsidies.....
  15. Never with you.
  16. First time I've ever heard a married man say that.
  17. Damn fine time! Princess & Ratclif look
  18. Maybe Kerry will raise veteran's benefits to where they were before W cut them.
  19. That's not what Summit said - I imagine you talked to Fred, eh?
  20. Fish moved from Bishop to JTree in past year didn't they?
  21. Mcmaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) or Grainger (www.grainger.com) Mcmaster is mail order, Grainger has a branch in the basin. Grainger required wholesale accounts last I was there(use your employer's name, pay in cash/credit card)
  22. No more 2 day bushwack along the Klawatti? Did you talk to the German first ascentionists?
  23. I can't come in to work today. I'm too drunk to drive
  24. Northern BC. Anyone been? Any beta about the 2 day bushwack in?
  25. That's funny - once, every month, like clockwork, Joe Bialek drops a coil and runs.
