Dan's dog here.
I guess it's time I come clean. Peter Alexander doesn't really exist. Neither does Pierce. Or Jen. I have been posting all of this. I know what your saying, how can a dog type. WELL FUCK YOU DOGS CAN TYPE. You can say or do whatever you want but you can't prove dogs can't type. Anyways you are all probably wondering why I did all of this. Basically I'm not an outdoor dog, I like watching TV and drinking from the toilet. I got sick and tired of Dan waking me up in the morning and taking me for these stupid training runs. I don't know if Dan climbed the mountain or not but he did leave me in the fucking car with the windows rolled up. Bastard.
Fido -
Since when are state prisoners not part of the local economy? They have family's to support - and this can be one of the greatest hardships of a relative going to prison. Yeah there lot's of cases of unfair competition form prison labor (Yosemite Valley RR vs. the Prison Labor Built El Portal road) If you'd read about the plan you'd know that Labor Wages were lower at the Prison, but overall business cost wasn't much different - increased security, etc.
As for Shapp's rant - there's something wrong in this country when the average Electrian makes more than the average Electrical Engineer.
Judging by the heavy layer of dust covering all the construction equipment in the picture (and the vertical tanks turned horizontal) I'd say not much of anything's being done at that site.
If it's not raining leave the tarp off - that's the attraction, a roomy shelter with bug protection and excellent ventilation w/ fly off.
2lbs for the Bug isn't light, but at 3.5 total w/tarp, it's not bad - and roomier than the clip flashlight.
They run a menial metal working & assembly plant.
The reason prison labor is good is a little thing called "recidivism", as in there's less (meaning the inmates cause less crime on release) when they've gotten some vocational training.
I can tell from your response you've probably never been to Mt Hood Ski Bowl. It's a small ski area (960acres) with runs never out of earshot of a highway. It's pretty much impossible to get lost in, unless your lazy. And calling 911 at noon on a 60 degree day - when you've been out for a little bit is irresponsible.
I think the line between propaganda and documentary is small, and nowadays, people seem to prefer propaganda to documentary (Rush, O'Crappy, Franken vs. mcneill).
Klenke-
Reifensthal's "Olympia" and "Triumph of the Will" are both considered documentaries. Triumph of the Will even won a grand prize. Documentary's shouldn't ever be considered strict fact presentation.
