    zip drives?

I'm curious to hear some examples. The only consistent thing that I've seen is some lazy hardware vendors obsoleting their gear by not writing 2000 and/or Xp drivers. -L One, at least w/going from 98/2k to XP is a loss of LP1 functionality that effects a cheesy VidMicroscope Image Capture System I have at work. For other things it may well be as you say - laziness/a cynical ploy for more money. I just know I was quoted $30k to upgrade 2 instruments
  2. Excellent Book - but one gripe. The map on page xvi misplaces Portland, OR by 60 miles!
  3. Guess I'd had too much to drink by that point! I do vaguely remember something like that now that you mention it.
  4. I was actually serious - coming over Cornell on my bike home from work, there was Dan by the side of the road @ the Wildwood!
  5. No, but I saw Dan - w/Caddis a couple of weeks ago warming up

    zip drives?

Unfortunately there's alot of control functionality to 98 that doesn't directly transfer to XP or 2k
  7. Before my vision declined even further (& I got contact lenses) I used to ski & climb without prescription lenses - they aren't much use when they fog up. Contacts have eliminated the need for this. FWIW people with 20/60 vision are allowed to drive in the daytime without corrective lenses.
  8. Forces at each anchor are equal & opposite to the one applied on the rope. To find the total force on the anchor, sum the forces on each anchor.
  9. I recommend liberally soaking with Scotch.
  10. Force is never multiplied on the anchor with a block and tackle (which is what a Z haul is, essentially See Here
  11. Who was awarded it in the first year? Fred?
  12. As of a couple months ago the BD retail store had demo Vipers for $99/ea. Cheap and good tools. Give 'em a call.
  13. Not if your headed to the Southern Hemisphere
  14. I came close to this last year - while on a Spring Ski Trip in Cali, pausing at a creek, I looked down from the 4' snowbank to see.... brookies rising below. Damn I wish I'd brought a rod.
  15. Like the 3 FS guys I saw in Colorado. 2 Suburbans and an F250 between them at the trail head, that the each drove individually. Real efficent
  16. Dora for President
  17. Awesome Pics Fairweather
  18. I'm not sure there's much that would be applicable. It's a pretty crappy book IMHO - I'm planning some long distance trips and it didn't tell me anything I didn't know (which doesn't say much!) Check your local library for a copy before you invest.
  19. Darling Lambone- There is more to climbing in California than Yosemite. Needles (Kernville area), Domeland Wilderness, and definitely stuff within and hour or two of the road in Kings Canyon/Sequoia. Check out Southern Sierra Rock Climbing: Sequoia/Kings Canyon by Vernon/Moser/Hickey
  20. You will be assimilated!
  21. When I worked at a goverment lab all of the equipment suppliers started wetting their pants come August - because they knew everyone had to spend their alloted money. All the reps knew how to write a quote (splitting lines, multiple quotes for seperate parts) to get it in your budget. Then their are congressional line item projects (aka pork) - a whole nother fiscal fandango.
  22. Ever heard of Mt Lemmon?
  23. It was hot stuff - I was justing reading climbing #100, awesome stuff Now if we could find a woman dressed like a certain Patagucci add of the era...
  24. NOLSe - Only if you sport a pink harness, AND leopard print spandex
