    SUPER MICRO SNAFFLE!

Come on Trask, you wouldn't even bother to waste a bullet on the micro snaffle, would ya?
  2. I was car bivied at the TH and trying to get myself woken up and moving around the time you guys got there. Probably saw you in the parking lot. I was just dinking around and ended up on Dragontail Plateau. Would've been a pretty easy traverse over to the summit but I figured there wasn't time w/ the time change. I was right. It was just getting darkish when I got back to the TH at 5:30. Didn't need the headlamp. There were a bunch of ladybugs over on S. Ingalls Peak, too, I was there on Sat.
  3. Stuart Range is wide open. You can go in from Ingalls Lake area, you can go up Stuart Lake Trail. There's no snow in the Enchantments basin and only small patches on the peaks. But the ptarmigan are completely white already. Kinda funny, the camo isn't working so well.
  4. I'd like to see any of you climb like that if you didn't have any hands. wings are SO aid Shhh. He's going for the duckbill pullup crux move. Very difficult.

    Tori Allen

Looks like less than 16% body fat to me. That is lean. Elite female athletes can get under 10% but it starts to have some side effects.
  7. Car bivied just a little ways before the TH to Big Sandy Lake, WY this summer. Woke up to a bunch of free range cattle roaming around. The big bulls took turns snorting and stamping and giving each other the evil eye, then charging until they were eyeball to eyeball. Then they just stood there for several seconds, looked around a little sheepishly, and charged off to take care of the next rival. Freakin' hilarious, big stupid oafs.
  8. I think her albums have all been downhill since the first one. Thought about checking the show out but didn't make it. Saw her at the Tractor Tavern touring for her second album. Good stuff.
  9. I believe it was JERRY SANCHEZ I was trying to think of, didn't he run up Si all the time in his plastics for training? It's all a little fuzzy in my mind but I thought it was a long running joke around here just like his typing in ALL CAPS.
  10. Gotta say a few things. I know maulings in Glacier NP are not rare, they probably average 1-2 incidents if not deaths per year. Kinda like people getting killed on Rainier. It happens. How many people visit Glacier each year? Thousands and thousands. Far fewer get into the back country, but still plenty of users. To act as if going into the Glacier backcountry w/out a gun is the same as having a death wish just doesn't seem to be statistically correct. And honestly my opinion is if you feel totally unsafe going into a national park or maybe even a wilderness area w/out packing heat because of potential encounters w/ wildlife, maybe you should find other places to visit. Is the purpose of a park to give you a safe place to play around in, or is it somewhere set aside for habitat for wildlife? We're the visitors, not them. Also the guy that was mauled in Katmai, if he's been doing this for 15 years it would seem that the theories he had formulated might have some relevance. If he was an idiot I don't think he would have survived that long among the bears. I look at it as being similar to climbing, if you do it for long enough the odds of being involved in a bad accident increase significantly. Nothing in climbing may be as unpredictable as a bear but there are plenty of variables that you don't control. To pretend otherwise is foolhardy. Okay, got a bit more than $.02 in there but I'm done now.
  11. Yes and so is mt si. Only if you wear plastic boots like Jerry what's-his-name.

    Sisu & Roy

I hate to sound caloused, but the first thing I thought when I heard that was "Good for the tiger." Of course I hope the guy recovers. But 800 lb. kitty cats aren't good pets.
  13. I did the 2 closest to Gothic and then Gothic a couple years ago. It was pretty fun. The Castles were definitely more sporting than Gothic.

    Limbaugh and racisim

As a comparison someone brought up comments Isaiah Thomas made about Larry Bird back in the day (paraphrase, not a direct quote) that Bird wouldn't have been nearly as highly regarded if he was black, he would have been just another good player. That's both stupid because Bird was clearly one of the best players in NBA history and racist, but Thomas never received much backlash for it. Double standard maybe? Impossible to display racism toward a white in a white dominated culture? None of that excuses Rush's comments, I think it was just a bad decision on his part and he should have known better. I don't really think that makes him a hateful biggot. I also think it's just a dead topic, there are probably about 6 black quarterbacks starting in the NFL. It' s no longer a big "story" if a black qb is starting. If the guy can play who cares what color he is.
  15. I read Don Munday's accounts of the early explorations of Waddington area (kinda dry) and they had really close encounters w/ griz frequently. Never came to violence, most of the time they didn't feel even slightly threatened by the bears.
  16. I've done some scouting around on it, my opinion is it would be better w/ snow. In addition to Capt. Caveman's suggestions you can approach it from the valley of the headwaters of the SF Stilly, same approach as Del Campo. Several gullies you can head up, definitely better when snow filled (when avy danger is subsided, obviously).
  17. They may be in the running, but California and Florida are both serious contenders w/ their various political snafus recently.
  18. Don't think anyone has mentioned Columbia Peak yet. Suggest using a bike via Monte Cristo Road and then hike into Twin Lakes area.
  19. I drive a Subaru and I'm not a Mazama.
  20. Good question. Unless carried on the person, a gun needs to be locked up in a secure safe at home. Jesus, some people need a clue. True dat. I shouldn't have said "gun nuts." This is just a horrible tragedy, something that never should have happened, and could have easily been prevented if the adults in the situation had been acting responsibly.
  21. Freshman year economics was a loooong time ago. I would guess demand for gas is close to a constant, so people are going to pay at the pump regardless of the price, there will just be lots of grumbling about it.
  22. Wrong. I have no avatars.
  23. Trying to become a finalist for this year's Darwin Award.
  24. Hmm, gas prices are astronomical right before Labor Day, the biggest driving weekend of the year. Then coincidentally prices start to drop in the following weeks. Hmm. Nope, not a case of big business artificially manipulating prices and screwing consumers.
  25. I understand the gun nuts don't want their toys taken away, but can anyone explain to me HOW THE HELL DID A 4 YEAR OLD GET HIS HANDS ON A .45?
