  1. Sounds about right. I forget when the original entry was but it goes way back.
  2. North Peak always catches my eye, I gotta get down to Weeden Lake (I think that's the name of it) some time. And then beyond I suppose.
  3. Why don't those things see more traffic? I think they are referred to as 1st and 2nd Castle. I climbed them a couple years ago, then a few weeks ago I went up 1st Castle again. Only 1 person had signed the register in the more than 2 years between my trips. I wouldn't call them classics, but if you're in the area they are more sporting than Gothic by far, and they are right there, seem like they would get more action.
  4. Still plenty of berries around, I can vouch for that. Gorged myself on huckleberries just below Goat Flats.
  5. I had no idea it was that significant. I was up there on Sunday. I haven't seen it this melted out before, I assumed most of the lower part was a snowfield. Nope. Pretty broken up, pretty good sized crevasses in a few places. Interesting. And then on the drive back down to the Mt. Loop Hwy I encountered 4 yahoos w/ a pickup parked in the middle of the road, a case of beer on the ground, and one of them had a gun cradled in his arm. Genius. I didn't stick around long to find out if they were shooting at passing cars. Rednecks.
  6. Oops. Georgia Tech self reported to the NCAA that they used 17 ineligible atheletes over 5 years or so. They're gonna be forfeiting some W's. Hope none of them were on last year's b-ball team.

    Hero

It's not a Tarantino flick. It's 2 years old, it's just finally being released in the U.S. Tarantino is "presenting" it but had nothing to do w/ the making of the movie.
  8. Oops, duh, missed the ER part in the title. I think those guys names were Jeff, Jake, and Pete.
  9. That would be East Ridge, right? My buddy and I were on the West Ridge that day. He dropped his digital camera from the summit. Oops. Pretty weird how parties from all 3 ridges converged on the summit at almost the same time.
  10. Rent a bear can from the Rangers, stick it under some rocks, and no worries about the bears. Pretty cheap, I think it's mostly just a deposit and you get almost all of it back. Thousand Island Lake area is nice too.
  11. I don't know about ratings of the routes, but I would guess you would find some choice stuff in Dusy (spelling?) Basin, up and over Bishop Pass. Beautiful area.
  12. Just saw this one yesterday: Save our dams.

    Body Mass Index

BMI is worthless. It doesn't take muscle mass into consideration at all. Back in the college days I was around 5'7" 180 lbs., did underwater weighing and had a body fat percentage of around 8, and according to BMI I was obese. Freakin' ridiculous.
  14. Ok, here it is... I really don't know how to post images so they show up. services rendered, rear end tendered. That's the strangest looking duck I've ever seen...
  15. That's what I thought too. The "Return to Siula Grande" documentary they did was fascinating. Interesting dynamic going on w/ the 2 climbers being reunited in the place where the accident happened.
  16. Couple years ago had one of my funnest outings on TFJ. Came in from Canyon Cr. Meadow, bit of nasty talus traversing to get over to the ridge above the PCT. Followed normal route to the summit, then descended to the PCT, followed it north, and eventually dropped back down into Canyon Cr. Meadow and back out to my car.
  17. None of 'em popped off when I was using them.

    Robin lakes

I went swimming in the upper lake one time, there was no wind so the surface was still. I saw my shadow on the lake bottom and I figure it was at least 20 feet deep, maybe more. Kinda cool.
  19. Ditto, rope unnecessary. Soloed it last year w/ no pucker factor.
  20. I thought Outland was fine. In the very beginning it tried to be different, then it pretty much became the same thing as Bloom County. I want to like Opus, but it has just been horrible so far, not even remotely funny. Too bad.

    Go Pistons

The Lakers aren't just losing, they are getting the shit kicked out of them. But have no fear, Phil Jackson whined about the officiating like he always does and I can just about guarantee the officiating will change significantly, swinging the momentum to LA. I hate those guys. They need to go down in flames.

    Burke-Gilman

Apparently there is no real crime in Lake Forest Park. I saw 3 police officers (2 on bikes and one actually sitting in his squad car) monitoring interesections w/ stop signs on the trail today, all within a mile or 2 of each other, heading southbound from LFP Mall. Wow. Tax payer $$ well spent I'm sure.
  23. On your way down from Thielsen take some time to play around on the small funky shaped crags. Fun stuff. All that talk about volcanic rock being crap isn't always true. I found it to be solid w/ more nubbins than you can shake a stick at.
  24. Seems like my buddies got buzzed by a news helicopter when they had a bad outing on Baker several years ago. I'm fuzzy on the details now, can't remember which station, but there was a chopper up there in the immediate vicinity.
  25. I heard a little clip of him singing the National Anthem at a baseball game recently, it was even worse than Roseanne Barr. Please, just go away. His 15 minutes is up already, not to mention he should've never gotten 15 minutes in the first place.
