Our fine commander-in-chief, the leader of the free world, brought a beautiful plastic turkey to our brave troops in the middle of the night. Where's your patriotism mofo?

Even better Dru. Things are going to be pretty damn settled from the get go. I think the avi reports said a mix of low and medium avi danger for tomorrow. (Hopefully Friday won't bring much precip). A mix of low and medium is very, very rarely written up on NWAC.

DRU says on Robbie Reid NF.... Sounds like it's gonna be next week. NWAC says..... Who's rearranging their work schedule?

I'm gonna sound whiney but.....the cover shot is lame Guy doing overhanging rappel in Tatoosh Range. Carrying no gear to speak of, maybe crampons? (don't have it in front of me) Maybe there really is some peak there that requires overhanging rappell to get off of. Maybe he left all his gear at the base and is now returning to it. The impression it leaves however is...staged photo shoot of sport rappeller. Lame. Might look good in REI catalog. There are plenty of good photographs and photographers out there. Use a shot of someone(s) actually climbing, preferrably on something a little grander, maybe even something in the book?!

I was drinking beer and plugging my ears. ANyone care to give a synophsis of the grand oratory of our commander-in-chief?

No mandatory free on the lower pitches of the Narrow Arrow Overhang routes. Bring a good select of little HB Offsets, camhooks and a regular hook. Darin

Communism Glad to see that the discussion is back on track. I'm not particularly convinced by those arguments though, The "C" rock is easly explained by a hair in the reimaging process and a lack of stars seems easily attributed due to limitations in the exposure ranges of film, if you're photographing bright objects like silvery astronauts at close range you wouldn't pick up much dimmer objects in the background without blowing out the foreground. Curious as to why we never ever went back. Did the aliens inhabiting secret bases on the dark side of the moon scare us off? Interested also in seeing if the Martians destroy our latest probe as well.

I just read through all three pages of this crap and no one has yet told us HOW WAS THE MOON LANDING FAKED?

In B'ham there is a very successful enviromental organization that has openly expressed the desire to shut off large sections of the North Cascades to human access. One of their big projects is to "protect" the habitat of large mammals in cross-border areas. Protecting includes shutting humans out. It seems that many modern enviromentalists (at least one's holding the purse strings) tend to be content appreciating wilderness from a distance vs experiencing it. Those of us out there using and enjoying it tend not to consider ourselves real enviromentalists.

Peter_Puget are you sure you know what underlying data is being used to make your original quote? "Richest" general implies wealth not income. Furthermore the only people who care to compile such lists are at Forbes.com. Go there, look at their website. Their list of 400 richest people is based on wealth. Seems to me you're now making invalid assumptions about the underlying data in an attempt to maintain a postion that your very own data doesn't support (i.e. the mega-wealthy are far more generous than the rest of us) Please do tell how you know that the orginal article was referencing income and not total wealth. Does the full article reveal this? have you contacted the author?

DYSFUNCTION: The only consistent feature of all your dissatifying relationships is YOU.

I did a little research using census data and forbes magazine. Those 400 richest had a net total wealth of 1.235 trillion dollars in 2000 (forbes). Total household wealth in 2000 was 17.228 trillion dollars (census; 104,644,000 households * $164,635 mean assets). Do a little math. Those 400 richest hold 7.2% of total wealth in this country. 7.2% of wealth, 7% of charitable contributions AT BEST they are contributing no more than the average percentage of ones wealth contributed by all Americans in general. Considering that we all need to build a certain amount of wealth to provide economic stability throughout our lives, the less wealthly need to focus on their own financial security before they can make significant charitable contributions. As a result you would expect the wealthy to be able to share a much greater portion of their wealth than the average American. But..they don't as you have so nicely brought to our attention.

YOU ARE ALL SO SUCK! If you're talking about real BC where you actually had to hump your ass out there why not just chill the faq out. Ski a different line if folks have beaten you to the punch. Or strike up a conversation and make a new friggin friend you wankers! They might just be diggin your ass out of the big ole' slab you're about to cut loose. What ever you do leave your lame ass BRO-BRA attitude back with the lemmings at the ski area where it belongs.

You're on. Open invite, Wednesday January 7th.

While leaving work yesterday the full moon had just started rising to the east. The skies were mostly clear so I threw my ski gear in the car, called up a friend and headed up to the Mount Baker Ski Area. Left the parking lot at 8 PM, skinned and booted up the East Side of Table Mountain, then skinned across the long summit plateau. Beautiful views of Shuksan, Baker and the lights of Bellingham and Vancouver. Dropped into whats called Table Saddle then skied 1400' of rolling terrain on the north face. A layer of hoar frost over 6" of light pow on a soft base made for delicious skiing. Back to the car by 10:20 and home by midnight. Beautiful sunrise this morning, Today looks good too, get after it while you can. Full moons and clear skies seem to happen more often than not. Gonna try and make it a monthly ritual.
