  1. There's always the old tried and true (guberment approved) [img:center]http://zhurnaly.com/images/Double_Shot_Liquor_Guns.jpg[/img] [img:center]http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/moonsylver/liquor-and-guns-dawn-demotivational-poster-1290284542.jpg[/img] Based on this marijuana pricing map the best armed citizens will live in the Dakotas, Central Texas, and Alabama. 2. Pre-SPOT part of climbing mountains was always an understanding that you're on your own and responsible for members of the group. Now that SPOT is here it sounds like it triggers a lot of folks to say, "I give up," even when they are perfectly capable of dealing with the situation. Of course the story may not have provided enough detail on the situation. When hooking up with partners these days at the Climbers Ranch take a written form saying, "I reserve the right to ditch you if there isn't unanimous agreement on activating SPOT." At least the form might weed out the folks you really didn't want to climb with anyway.
  3. Now this is what you want [video:youtube]
  4. No chance of wind drift or poor shooting, no sir. I'll hit it at close range and piss it off even more.
  5. The comments are pretty funny. Bear spray is your best defense
  6. But if you cover the pressure relief valve they cook even faster. [img:center]http://thebestofthymes.com/img/pressurecooker.jpg[/img] [img:center]http://www.rumproast.com/images/uploads/casserole004_thumb.jpg[/img]

They all suck. It ain't too surprising Kev likes one of em.
  8. A triple neck guitar is too easy. The best guitar players have quadruple neck guitars [img:center]http://static.gigwise.com/gallery/ricknielson-quadgeetar.jpg[/img]
  9. What was labeled 5.9 in the 70s or before can be open to interpretation. Look at all the 5.9 A2s in the Canadian Rockies for a starter. In any case Easter Overhang does come down to the one move through the hanging part and into the upper chimney. Rate it what you want, but it is nice to have lead climbs harder than 5.9 before leading Easter Overhang.

On top of all that REM ended their run [img:center]http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/music2/remday.jpg[/img] [video:youtube] http://remhq.com/news_story.php?id=1446
  12. I believe you would want to include an engineer along with the architect and qualified arborist (not some dude with a chain saw and pick up ). The project probably requires a few other specialized skills. I don't think there is any cheap way to build something like a public or semi-public tree house. Maybe building a cabin overlooking the ravine is a better idea. You could set up rope courses and a small platform in the tree for folks interested in climbing the tree. Less potential damage to the tree and less liability overall. Ski areas keep the base lodge open and maybe a few limited lifts open during adverse conditions like high winds or avy danger.
  13. Circumscribes or girdling the tree is a bad idea. If you want the tree to live and or keep failure risks low that is. It does take a little longer to choke a woody plant compared to a human or animal, but it will happen as the tree grows. A cable with a eye bolt may work. It depends on bridge load requirements. Threw bolts and cables are used to reduce risks of failures in trees at times. 80-feet is a long way up. Maybe an elevator is a better idea. A nice set of stairs descending to near the base of the tree then an elevator. You could set up zip lines for folks exiting the tree. Using a harness and signing a waver that is

    Republican debates

There's still a real chance Sarah you know who may enter the race. In the old days Republicans were good at accounting and budgeting. Today most of them are
  15. Trees flex to compensate for forces like wind. The entire tree needs to move with the wind. If you keep the tree from swaying to an arbitrary point, risks of failure above your arbitrary point will rise. Placing a tree house in the target zone for a failure and increasing risks isn't the best idea.
  16. I've never hung out in PG, but it's an important milestone on a few northern BC trips. Shames Mountain out of Terrace has some of the best lift served bc skiing I remember. A one ride lift ticket takes you to the bottom of some killer terrain. Crazy talk

This is an interesting chart [img:center]http://media-files.gather.com/images/d782/d572/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg[/img] Source Eisenhower was a Republican president and the rich paid 91% in taxes. From what little I know of the 50s it sure seems like there were quite a few rich folks with posh mansions running companies that employed lots of folks. Interesting how the tax rates plummeted after Nixon to the levels seen just before the depression. The depression in the 30s not the recent one. Hmmm

  19. In the old days rescue involved a hike to the car and drive to the nearest pay phone or banging on a door of a building that looked occupied. Getting dropped by plane with a date selected for pickup in advance was even more exciting. Some places do require sat phones now, but lots of folks update their Facebook status at camp.
  20. Lots of development at Applebee. [img:center]http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/500/medium/IMG_0732_2000x1126_.jpg[/img] In the 80s there was no building. Everybody at camp could instantly see whether the thrown was occupied and by who. At least they preserved most of the view with the window. Nice climbing pictures
