  2. Pine beetle can produce two or more generations in recent times due to longer growing seasons and infrequent winter cold snaps (-40 temps for a week or so). Greater numbers and longer periods of feeding ruin what used to control their numbers. The Western White Pine (not white bark pine) is the Idaho state tree. Blister Rust and logging has reduced Western White Pines (Pinus monticola)in North Idaho to a few scattered trees. Blister rust was an exotic fungus imported to the area. There's a good picture on page 2 of this UI doccument showing the loss http://www.idahoforests.org/img/pdf/rmrs_gtr35.pdf Importing exotic species and insects, either accidentally or on purpose, can cause long term problems. Another example of importing gone wrong: Most of the Appalachian mountains were forested with American Chestnuts, but importing European chestnuts around 1900 for their fruit introduced chestnut blight and wiped out the dominant tree of the region. 4. Taft visited Seattle and spent the night at a house overlooking Lake Washington. Prior to arrival they had to put in new wider doors. I'n not making this up, or at least I worked at a house next door a few years back and that was the story I heard.
  5. Fixt it for ya... I could have sworn it was up river, but my memories from the 80s are sketchy sometimes.
  6. Ya know Rob folks have been trying to pull that kind of stuff for years. That's why the VIN number is in about 20 spots on your vehicle. You'r only going to invite towing and compounding in a lot for further study.
  7. I find you can cover ground a lot faster if you trade in your brush for a hammer.
  8. A group of us climbed last weekend in an area where the official parking lot required the evil pass. We parked on the road across the street. Breakin the law... Next thing you know WSDOT will require parking permits unless you can prove a mechanical breakdown or medical emergency. I haven't read through the rules or completely understand what prompted them. Thank god there are CC EXPERTS that can make statements and yell without reading any study or knowledge of the situation.
  9. Slick Rock and Lightning Dome are fun but probably aren't great day climbing spots. Driving on 95 always takes longer than you think it should. Slick Rock is closer to Boise. Lightning Dome is on the south fork of the Clearwater. It's a great spot. Make sure to stop by the store upriver from Lightning Dome. It's worth a visit
  10. Peshastin Pinnacles Try Verizon Mobile Pinnacles :[]
  11. Perhaps outhouses are a bad or hot button example. There are other items that cost money that volunteering can't replace. In most cases volunteers need supervision by paid employees.
  12. I believe the volunteers make up for some of the budget gaps, but there is a cost to everything requiring either employees, contractors, or supplies. Outhouses don't just build and clean themselves for free for example. I don't like the pass at all. How do you fund the area without either a tax or user fee I'm not sure. One thing I am sure of is arguing about it online induces sprayfests.
  13. There is a sign in the parking lot in the gap below the Phantom Slide runnout that says, "No Sledding or Snow Play" I wonder if the definition of, "Snow Play," includes backcountry skiing, or skiing without a lift ticket. Skiing inbounds with a lift ticket is a real sport ya know
  14. Yep, If I remember correctly in Canada the companies pays for the vast majority of logging roads. In the US the guberment builds/pays for the roads.

Don't worry, both of my parents are mounties, and I took part in crevasse rescue classes on the Nisqually Glacier that involved loading basic students into two Greyhounds for the field trip. I like to tell myself I've matured from teenage years, but maybe not I am proud to say I'm an Intermediate drop out.
  16. Ya know Dawg, you show up a few times every couple months and lob some grenades then disappear. If your goal is making serious points then act serious and try to stick to good debating protocol. Among other things that means no more posting pictures of BLTs on cliffs or Macaulay Culkin. I know other posters may continue flame throwing, but at least you're proving you're better than that and take the subject seriously. People might actually take you seriously enough to engage in a real discussion instead of looking at your posts and thinking either, "That nutjob is back," or, "Who is this freak?" I've seen plenty of overbolted routes and crack bolting. I agree bolting cliffs is a discussion worth having, but good discussions always involve give and take. Like a lot of subjects with two opposing sides nobody will think they got everything they wanted in the end. At the very least getting route setters to think before breaking out the drill is a step in the right direction. Right now you're just going to get a big ignore from folks doing what you dislike as they break out the drill.
  17. Fresh, magical yoga chick shit.
  18. I just started reading this thread. Greeks and gifts? [img:center]http://www.falconfinl.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/trojanhorse.jpg[/img] So they gave a gift to the Trojans expecting something in return? Since their gift sucked the Trojans gave them shitty condoms and now they're on the hook financially for a bunch of annoying brats.
  19. Umm prole, you and a few others might want to review the definition of humor Source
  20. It only took one video to convince me that the conservative elements on CC are right and I need to change my political views. [video:youtube]
  21. Yep, I can see 48 but no 50. The standard Northcutt Carter Route on Hallett Peak is gone daddy gone too. I believe I've done 29. There are some cool ones!

If they win at home they can parade the trophy through Stanley Park that evening. Can't do that in Boston.
