  1. Skiing both at ski areas and backcountry. Climbing trees. I've done this for work for a long time. It sounds just like rock climbing, but it's different if you want to do it in good form. It's fine to spike up a tree if your goal is to kill the tree. If you just want to summit then you need different tactics in the same way rock climbers look down on over bolting. Watching sports. I'm no diehard fan, but going to see a major league game can be a good time. Reading.
  2. I'm sure Dru has done the route online.
  3. Sometimes I start to read long posts, but then something else gets in the way.
  4. It wasn't quite like that. We had rock shoes and some light weight hiking shoes. Dru I never said anything about rapping. I agree that's a bad idea.
  5. I write letters and if I don't know who I'm talking to I usually address it to, "Dear Sirs." That's what I bring from school.
  6. When I did Yak Check last we didn't have tennies; no big boots either. I didn't think the descent was that bad plunge stepping, but my partner is freaked out by snow and he had to face in the whole way down the snow. It all depends on how comfortable you are on snow.
  7. He must be willing to give you a reach around.

Gary is a scientist therefore he has the mainline.
  10. I was just listening to an interview with Ted Stevens (whoever the republican senator from AK is) He doesn't have a problem with AK selling crude. He figures that it's going to come from somewhere. He's still thinks global warming is a problem, but the solution will come from making power users like car companies reduce the amount of fuel you need to drive all over. Sorry to jump into a music thread...I'm sure they will burn some fuel for the show; though it might be biodiesel.
  11. How ya like them donkey punches?
  12. I think Don Imus can say whatever he wants as long as he's doing it on his free time, or at least he's going to have to get a narrower paying audience. Once you start publically speaking on major media you get held to a higher standard. Given these standards I'm sure there are others that might deserve firing. Don made a big enough impression on people that there was an outcry. I figure CBS will drop him for good, but fans will still be able to pick him up on Westwood One (or whatever it is) somewhere. After all you can pick up all kinds of fucked up shit on the radio; just take a late night drive anywhere and start flipping the AM dials.

    Kurt Vonnegut

I just heard that on the radio. That's a bummer He had some great books.
  14. Could we please get a video of Chugachdude and johnkelley going on a climbing trip. That would be priceless.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to go see a pseudoreligious band. It's not my thing, but their are bands or singers that perform at churches that have some talent. STIPER is not one of them
  16. My understanding that you can overcome this by always clipping into the ends. Once you've done this then you can reclip one biner into a midpoint in the daisy.
  17. I couldn't do it this year, but I'd love to do the Patrol Race. I haven't stayed at the Meany lodge since I was a teen, but it is a cool lodge and the snowcat ride (tow) out is pretty cool. At least as long as nobody has it in for former mounties who would not rejoin.
  18. When you have to pick between OR, WA, and BC. Washington is in the middle, and Washington Pass kicks ass. I've never skied in Oregon other than Bachy. I'm sure there's some cool stuff there. I have done a bunch of skiing in BC and it does rule. I think if somebody is bound and determined to change the location you better start the loby early and have a good plan for your ideal spot.
  19. That's just a bonus. The icecube trays were the deal breaker.
  20. Maybe she found a new place where the folks living there were looking for a new roommate with some icecube trays.
  21. Can you read that online?
  22. All I can say is if it costs a few dollars and you have to do a little cleanup it's worth it.
  23. To get a good photo op you do need to hit not miss, but it has to be a natural hit. No sneaking off to ram a chainsaw into your leg just for the photo. Folks want to see you out kicking ass and then get hurt without planning it out. Your hit has the natural look to it. All my chainsaw injuries are old and healed over without the excitement of the fresh cut.
  24. If I can add to what Bill said. When you're looking for a new partner don't insist you start out doing some badass climbing. On your first crag trip spend more time getting to know your new climbing buddy. After you both feel comfortable climbing with each other then you can ramp things up. You can't just say, "I wanna do some badass climbs right now god damn it." You and your partner both have to build trust by climbing not just trading notes over the interweb.
  25. You'd be Miss January
