  1. Chianti Spire.
  2. Hey Charlie, It seems lately the folks producing guide books are playing around with the ratings. (save your breath everyone, I know they're subjective) For istance "The Travelers Guide" is a nice selection of quality routes, however most of the ratings have been downgraded. Some of them not fair to the bright eyed bushy tailed enthusiastic newby. I do not know Smoot, just that his books haven't always been of the highest quality. (for a quality guide thumb through A Rock Climbers Guide to Smith Rock)
  3. Bolt the crack.
  4. Major Climbing BettyLynn Hill: First free ascent of The Nose, 1993.
  5. Mr. Puget, your philosophy concerning the potential harm due to such posts is agreeable. I've had to bite my tongue in this thread because I respect the moderators and the other folks that visit this board . When threads digress into vernacular bowels I wonder how long can will the site remain worth the effort of those volunteer moderaters. (Maybe the Pub folks can take upa collection for Jon and Tim)
  6. 1978: First American ascent of K2; Lou Reichardt, Jim Wickwire. Now there are two hardmen.

  8. Newman....chill. Your only recourse is to have PNW legend JBlakley rescue your name and give his blessing.
  9. Armchair quarterbacking never goes anywhere. A few climbing friends have died because of just plain old mountain stuff. And then everyone gathers around to spew their high and mighty hindsight only to watch those same loud mouths make even worse mistakes. Climbing is dangerous. No excuses, No warnings.

  13. In every indivual or team sport/endearvor there are numerous terms for those new folks. Ever try out for the football, soccer, or baseball teams? How many equipment bags and water jugs have I had to carry? Try a hand at Kayaking or sailing, no bleeding hearts there. Rookies, gumbies, newbies are all terms of endearment and rite of passage. I'm grateful to my mentors for calling me these names because it kept my ego and attitude in check and to always remember that there is something new to learn no matter what grade or how much experience I attain. So if it ruffles someone's feathers so be it, I won't apologize, because the meanings are not condesending. Thick skin breads an iron will for long dicey runouts.

Went to the opening of IMAX Everest and sat in the same row with Big Lou Whittiker, brother Jim, Swensen, David Breshears (had dinner with him as well), Tom Horbein, Ed Veisters. Climbed with Lynn Hill at Little Si. Carried jblakley's climbing shoes and gym bag.
