Cpt. I've been pondering that question. I bet some snickering geek ass computer nerd will beat me to the punch just to piss me off before I can change it to 2002. If I miss the opportunity I guess I'll have to take a back seat to lameboi and just suck the entire year. Maybe the almighty cc.com board dickbrain god Jon will let me have dibs. Jon?

I surfed in Maui a month ago. Ahhh cool tunes and lucious waves and plenty of babes!

I do judge people on their character as opposed to their climbing ability. There are plenty of examples of good and poor quality folks out there at all levels of expertise. I commend Scott for taking a stand for something he strongly believes. Hopefully a lesson is learned that he would kindly address the issue directly next time. And maybe some other folks may take a little more considerate view of other people. I also live a life without alcohol or drugs, however I do not hold any inferior judgement to whomever chooses to indulge in those activities. Clearly we could all look a bit farther than our own belly buttons. If I were to smoke dope or drink or anything, the first thing to go would be my iron will to go for hard run outs and climbing level. Second would be everything I've worked my stupid ass off to achieve. I just know I'm going to get sprayed for this one.

Great question brotha!

It seems that so much of this began in the late Nixon/Ford to Carter era. Hijacked planes and taking American hostages then trading weapons for them. All the US government did was look like a scared sissy dog with it's tail between it's legs. Now over the years these "terrorists" have honed their skills to unheard of arrogance and destruction. I believe they would fear absolute force. I believe in that absolute force - push that big red button. All at the same time, Kabul, Bhagdad, and Pakistan's capital.

Good job getting to Muir last weekend hardon. How was the weather? Try not to let a little low class behavior get at you.

You begin to wonder who has the brass monkeys to come out from behind the screen.

Whatever happened to the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour when we were kids? An innocent non-violent cartoon. Remember the Barber of Sevile?

A couple of classics. descent: Good rappel horn near the summit. Up chimney for 50 ft on aid (about 7 points), then move easily (5.8) to belay amid perched blocks. 120ft.

There are a few documented cases where the harness makers hold the harness user liable for not using the rappel/belay loop during a harness failure. I too learned on a BD Alpine Bod harness and had to accept a new way. Now I trad/gear climb, alpine climb, sport, rap all with the belay loop. Trust it with my life.

On my desk lies "Climber's Guide to Smith Rock"...ahh reads like fine classic novel. Also "Selected Climbs in the Cascades" by Nelson (nearly all climbs/routes ticked) another fine read. Next to that "Cascade Alpine Guide 3: Rainy Pass to Fraser River" by the Jedi Master Becky. Day dreamin! In my top drawer is "The Travelers Guide" (nearly all climbs/routes ticked) My fav read outside of climbing has got to be "I, Claudius". Love those Romans.

Calling Jon egotistical is ridiculous. Go up and ask for any new route ideas or beta on any of his first ascents or other climbs he's accomplished and you'll be rewarded with a kind response and a gentle soul. Public personality does not equal what's inside a person. And as in business or any medium, it's easier to throw darts than to create the target.

Matt, I applaud your creative presausion to generate a discussion. As a leader in a very corporate process oriented environment, I have a deep appreciation for clear direction. Therefore your thread brings to mind some questions that need answers in order to proceed. 1. How do the areas get split into divisions? Say by Beckey Guide Book sections, or by individual areas? 2. What qualifications would a person need to sit on such a committee, how are those individuals recruited and how would a leader be elected? 3. What would be the decision making process? 4. What are the clear goals or objectives of the committee and process? 5. How are these goals to be measured? 6. Where and how would the budgets and cost be controlled? 7. What about risk mitigation? Many other questions come to mind, those are just the nuts and bolts (pardon the pun) of committee building. I'd be willing to discuss the issue further.

I too just returned last night from 10 days in Maui. Aloha! What's up with this cold weather? Why is everyone so pale?
