What if you ran into a Mounties climbing party? They own that valley, and they travel in packs of 12. Ten rounds just wouldn't have cut it, you guys were lucky.

NPS rangers prefer open carry when in dangerous duty locales such as Cascade Pass. Make sure your extra ammo and Taser is in full view as well, that keeps those surly climbers on their toes.

Oh, and nice work on the climb! Sounded strenuous, what a difference a few weeks make.

It is pretty much a trail with minimal 'schwacking. Stay climber's right in the boulder fields and look for cairns. There will be a lot of fresh snow below 5K after this past weekend. I heard maybe 1-3 feet 3K and up. My brother was on Lookout mountain Sunday and reported waist deep wallowing at 4.5K. I can see the snow on Cultus Mountain out my window right now.....

[TR] Snow King Mountain - West Ridge 4/12/2015
JasonG replied to katetheweight's topic in North Cascades
Though you say "West", I think you mean the standard Northeast Route. Or maybe this was done on purpose to throw off the map stealing hordes? That IS a nice map BTW, what did you use to create it? -
Richard Pargeter's Mountain Maps Return!
JasonG replied to Lucas Pargeter's topic in The Gear Critic
I have had those maps on the wall of my gear room for 15 years, and before that they were on the wall of my bedroom in my parents house. I still uses them often to figure out what views will be like, which trails to use for approaches, etc. I cut mine so that they fit together somewhat in a big mosiac. I would love to see them back in print! -
It is still closed at the bridge over Canyon Creek, with no plan in sight for replacement. Talked with Peter Forbes about it last week when he was at our office. They are pursuing alternate ways of getting to Tupso Pass over private logging roads.

One of CC.com's very own.....Strong work again John! Damn, sounded like quite the exhausting adventure: http://www.alpinist.com/doc/web15s/newswire-frieh-stuckey-diesinger-new-route-mt-dickey

I was a bit skeptical, but you're off to a good start with the blog. You might want to add J-tree to your route though, it is one of the best parks IMO....

This was a new one for me: As seen this past weekend at the Castle Rock trailhead. I guess the internet still isn't king for these types of public eye pokes.

Ten years.

You don't need to tell me that, my wife is from Stony Brook! For anyone like yourself, Long Island is pretty bad. I hope you don't have too much more time there.

That damn polygamist, Layton is such a spirit-breaker.

Agreed. But in those situations I think a sat. phone makes the most sense.

Colin and Dylan's climb is pretty cool and all, but what I am really interested in is whether or not John was successful in his quest from all those years ago:
