  1. hakioawa, were you the two we met at the base of the route? We wondered how you were doing descending the wet sidewalk... heh heh. I guess the late start paid off for us.
  2. I didn't find the rock that bad. Of course, if I'd had an experience like you, then I'd probably label it a chosspile too. Thanks for making the route more solid. The worst part was the sketchy scree on the descent.
  3. "The rock (of Mt Thompson) is andesite of the Naches Formation, typical of the region." ... so says Beckey. This is in the scree below the peak. We didn't see any of these rocks on the peak itself, but there were a lot mixed in in the talus. Here's as good a closeup as I have: We hypothesized that they were snowflake fossils Well, anyway, I thought it looked cool...
  4. Just curious... can someone explain what causes these weird starbursts and shards in these rocks?
  5. He's been taking too many of these:
  6. Don't know about Ptarmigan, but the Emmons was so suck for skiing last weekend. Might be ok on a really warm day, since its still continuous (no real crevasse problems), but it was bumpy and icy crap. The corridor has deep penitentes across its entire width. Didn't see any climbers coming over from Ptarmigan or Lib Ridge...
  7. I use Vegas, from Sonic Foundry. Maybe a little pricey if you don't need anything too fancy (but still cheaper than Premiere I think?), but they have a good entry-level editor called VideoFactory, which is what I started with (60$ I think). Super stable software. You can download trial versions at their website. Windows MovieMaker will work, and its free, but its pretty limited in what you can do.
  8. This is pretty brutal, and yet hilarious: fatchicksinpartyhats
  9. I'm pretty sure I bought primaloft at Seattle Fabrics once, but I don't see it on their website... oh wait, it was Lite Loft I bought, not primaloft.
  10. I know Beckey has Snow Gulch mislabeled in the green book (I have the one with the bumpy cover)... he's got it below Sill glacier, which is on the NE (so further east of the whitehorse glacier route, not further west). The Whitehorse glacier/Snowgulch goes up the north/northwest side, right below the big rock wall with towers to the west, that the standard route is on the other side of.
  11. I was up in the area last weekend. Snow on Sahale arm looked pretty patchy... i.e. if you're contemplating skiing it, there would be a lot of hiking, not much skiing.
  12. RATM's cover of Maggie's Farm , but I've never heard the original. Is it any good?
  13. or get one of these: flame thrower
  14. Lawsuit-wise, something that just leaves a semi-permanent mark on the thief, rather than injuring him, might be safer (although less satisfying)... some sort of flurescent dye strip that you put somewhere he will touch (or that explodes in his face), but can still be safely removed by you. hmm
  15. Or for that matter, Cascade River road, where - conveniently - the whole road is considered a "trailhead". Keep paying Beck, maybe one day we'll get a nice big outhouse with TP at the boston basin trailhead, like the one they put at the Eldo TH (this is our Natural Legacy, you know).
  16. Why not just bring downhill gear and hike up on foot? Snow is pretty consolidated for walking these days...

  18. I think it means the cloud deck will be high... i.e. you aren't going to get high enough to pop out of the clouds.
  19. Exodus peak http://www.bivouac.com/MtnPg.asp?MtnId=711 looks like the broad dome just to the right of the pointy peak in sverdina's photo. ...Mt Tinniswood, like jordop said...
  20. Looking at the 92J mapsheet, a line from Wedge over Rainbow mtn goes over -Mt Callaghan -Exodus Peak -then a bunch in the Clendenning Range (Willson, Ralph, Pollock, Oswald, Perkins, Vanstone, blahblah) Can't tell anything from the 500ft contours though.
  21. Well, it could slide off and kill you. I saw two guys come within 30 feet of getting creamed there a few years ago.
  22. I think snoboy is correct regarding the pictures... copyright is implied.
  23. For 10$/month you should probably be getting something like 500MB, and unlimited data transfer.
