  2. Absolutely awesome. Thank you for sharing the story as well as some amazing photos. It is reports such as this that make this site come closer to what it should be. Cheers and thanks again.
  3. I believe you can also buy these items from Trojan, Durex, Lifestyles etc. not sure about the insulated part but the more expensive ones come with ribs
  4. I have been using an REI Travel Down bag for about 5 years for all my three season bivies and camping. I tried it in Winter once and suffered beyond a resonable amount IMO. I typically use a bivy sack as the Travel Down is rated at 45dg and the bivy sack affords me wind and moisture protection. Up until about a year ago my bivy sack was an old school REI Cyclops, circa early nineties. It is heavy but also pretty heavy duty and I really dig the brimmed hood and zipper config for sitting bivies. Now I am using an REI Minimalist bag and the packability and weight difference is nice. The Travel down stuffs smaller than my down parka. I have been more than happy with this style set up for quite a while now. I think the advantage of using clothing you are already bringing to offset the warmer ratings of the light bag is worth it, as it forces one to think in terms of cohesive clothing and sleeping systems and therefore not carry unnecessary weight for single use situations.
  5. Damn straight! Makes you dream better!
  6. Nice pics Wayne. I especially like 1010124, that is sweet! Looks like a good time, too bad about the blisters. No kidding long nights...
  7. No infestation just the one. Way better than times I have stayed at the Eagle Lake Cabin. Thanks for the congrats.
  8. It stole food from Smedley and died....according to the note.
  9. Baker is opening in Thursday!
  10. Yeah the theme of the weekend was creepy moustaches. I think we pretty much nailed it. The lady at the store in Granite thought we were from some sort of "club".
  11. We may have helped you come off that way!
  12. That was a great crowd when we got in. Will definitely keep you in mind when we are headed out. How was the hike out with the girls?
  13. Trip: Mt Pilchuck - Date: 11/8/2009 Trip Report: Took a quick trip up Pilchuck with a couple of buddies to spend the night celebrating my birthday and the fact I am going to be a father. It was nice to get out and get some Winter like conditions on the North facing gullies and ridge/scramble route. Gear Notes: Ski pole, Tequila and Beer. Approach Notes: Trail to below saddle and traverse climbers left to gully systems.
  14. What is wrong/unusual about reading the dictionary?
  15. Yeah, he pretty much gets the abusive alpine dick award in those scenes.
  16. Please explain the rules of the drinking game.
  17. Anyone know how the Mont-Bell Therma Wrap Parka stacks up against the Mountain Hardwear Compressor Hoody? Dane?
  18. I have wondered the same thing about the helicopter Lowell. Considering there was no CGA or advanced special effects at the time I would think that was the case. It would be interesting to find out for certain.
  19. I found one by searching trip reports in the archive and there was a link to the topo. It printed out well but it is like 20 pages. Here you go! I could not get the link to work as a clickable link, but if you copy and paste the url it will work. http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/download/Number/4074/filename/Spring%20Topos.pdf
  20. No experience with a spot or spot2 but heck Les Stroud supports it. As for the fights you could always do what I did and just buy her a Rabbit and then she won't care if you are there or not.
  21. I am going to grab a beer and wait for five more minutes and then watch you primates start pulling parasites off one another. Beats the hell out of another Beacon thread though.
  22. Well said. I think the idealogical stance of not taking the evil technology along is a short sighted one. Let's say something does happen and you are able to get a signal to call in (for your team or another party) in 1/2 the time it would take you to get a phone or ranger station or whatever and that time was the difference between someone living or dying, don't you think it would be worth having. I for one would have a hard time living with the decision to not take one out of principal. Like another poster said may as well have the same disdain for gear made from technical materials. Same as in life in the lowlands it is a choice to have the thing on and or use it.
  23. Well, I for one liked reading your daily (humorous) posts.... x2
  24. Genepires - yeah Jason, don't know where I got Jim.
