Not much it seems. Good answer BD2510, thank you.

That would be about 100 vertical feet a minute, at that rate he would climb the nose in 1/2 hour.

15 minutes is rockin it hard dude. There's only one Alex Honnold, no need to try and stay up with him.

Really guys, mo bettah to just do the shorter raps, that would have solved the problem in all liklihood. Its when you try to skip raps and do double rope raps on less then vertical terrain and/or with a stepback at the anchor that you cause yourself problems due to the rope stretch and the fact that now you are 200 feet away from the anchor instead of 100, and that there is allot more terrain for the rope to hang on way out there. Last guy could have worked the knot over the edge also as he rapped, thats what I always try to do to insure a good clean pull. hey, nothing wrong with being a Sunday morning quarterback is there!

Enchantments Hike thru this coming weekend
stevetimetravlr replied to olyclimber's topic in Climbing Partners
It is really miserable and smokey in the Icicle currently, and surrounding areas such as Leavenworth. You can still enter the Enchantments thru Snow Creek but with the fire headed down 8 mile, I would not be planning anything in the Icicle for the up coming weekend, and with the possibility of Snow Creek parking getting closed as well. Really it all is going to depend on the wind. No matter what happens, with the Wenatchee fire and the Entiat fire, and the fires in the Icicle, it is not a pleasant place to be right now as the whole area is smoked out. That said the Enchantments have remained mostly smoke free, but Stuart Creek and Icicle Creek and Snow creek valleys full of smoke. http://cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1082243/Re_Fire_closure_in_the_Enchant#Post1082243 -
This fire appears to have started up near Eightmile or Caroline Lake. Hard to imagine it was started by lightening down in a hole like that, seems more likely by a careless camper but who knows. From the vista of Edwards Mesa, we watched it roar across the hillside on Saturday, and were concerned about it reaching the road down in the canyon and closing the road. Sure enough yesterday a helicopter landed in the upper Enchantments and 4 rangers got off, and begin closing off Asgard Pass and Colchuck Lake and evacuating everyone. They are throwing a tremendous amount of fire suppression by air at it, lots of fire planes and choppers going in and out, this fire has the potential to spread down the Icicle if the wind comes up, so they appear to be trying to gain the upper hand. Here's hoping they do.

Let me know when youre going Ivan and I'd be into doing it with ya. -
Bears is worth discussing John, alittle stout and awkward but what a splitter! Doesn't get climbed much I think because of the approach pitch. How about the Flying Dutchman is another one that should see more traffic, at least the lower pitch, classic. Next door, Physic Wound has a wild rose bush in it at the hand crack section, and whoever goes up there next should bring a pair of pruners because it will shred your arm. Also, there was a bat in the crack that my partner grabbed by acccident, kind of scary. All these routes are victims of the peregrine closure and are heavily vegetated every opening now, and need a good scrubbing of the lichen on the holds, although 1st pitch of the Dutchman is clean as a whistle at the moment and ready for action.

Pitch 4 is not cruxy if you have ever done any slab climbing. With a bolt right there and then a pin, cakewalk is right. Why would you go around it? It would be rated 5.8 in Leavenworth or the Valley, and probaly be 15 feet out instead of sewn up.
-
Get er done Dennis, after the 2nd pitch lead, everything else is cake.

That is amazing looking rock. Nice job guys! -
Never heard of it Dave. Is it full of gear people have bootied? The odds of finding the owner of a pocketknife laying out in the bushes off the trail seem astronomical, but just goes to show you never know. But then I didn't find it. Got to climb with Justin P. yesterday, he is still firing hard. Had a couple fast movers nipping at our heels the whole way up YW, the Silverman brothers. Those guys must not drink decaf. Also, watched Dennis the menace get the redpoint 2nd pitch YW, and a big welcome to Astrov(Ian) who was belaying him!
-
Holy sheepshit, sounds like Adam W. and Justin P. are "In the House". Welcome back to Beacon boys!
-
Dave, Not today, but last night Sara found it on the hike out, nice shiney one with a logo. So sorry dude, its on its way to Nepal. Ivan, is Tinywing the same as Chickenwing? Cut right early off Little Wing? Sounds like you been getting some laps in.
-
Nice Job Kevbone sending Fear of Flying with nary a hesitation, and Arent flashing Crazy Horse, sweet! Sorry to cross ropes with you guys at the anchor, we were trying to get over on Bears before the twilight faded. Earlier we jumped on Crusing right in front of Ivan so he was relegated to the corner, didn't mean to ace ya dude.
-
Good job Bill! I saw Jim out at Beacon after he climbed with ya and he was positively brimming over with enthusiasm for Jimmy's. However, after viewing your photo, I am going to let you guys have it, as you're scaring me. For the guys who did Right Gul on Sunday and got torn and thrashed by the blackberry bushes, I have heard they are no longer. Right Gul good to go~.

Perhaps this is a good time to remind everyone that it is the first ascentionists of a route that have the say on whether additional bolts or fixed gear are added or taken off a route. Period. In the case of Young Warriors that would be Jim Opdyke and co. Jills Thrill, Jim opdyke again. Way to crush it Kevbone.
