Hey there Kyle, The key to preventing snow from balling up is to start by applying wax to the hair before you hit the trail. As you go along the skins absorb moisture and can freeze then it is harder to get the wax to stick to the hairs. This is especially true with older climbing skins. Wax: Colder waxes tend to do better on the whole as it doesn't heat up as quickly with friction and get stripped off. I tend to use whatever is a small enough square to put in my pocket. Of course, I tend to have all Toko wax these days and use Red or the Fluoro blox mostly but I've used canning paraffin, Sex Wax (from surfing days), etc.. The only thing I haven't liked as much are spray on/liquid wax application to skins. You can either apply to much (not the best grip) or not enough (snowball effect) or it can accumilate on the glue side and prevent skin stickerage. Sunday was a great example of fresh new fallen snow, high moisture content, and warming weather and variable snow. On Wedge that day I was very happy to have applied wax at the car. Perfect conditions for building your own snow stilts.

Forgot to scrap and brush the cover wax off the skis? Use a sharp (plastic or metal)scraper or thin stiff putty knife to get as much of the wax off as you can. If needed, I would recommend a mild wax remover (Gel Clean is not as harsh as some) to get off the rest of the wax. If using remover make sure to get all of it off the skin and let it dry before glueing. Probably have to do some spot reglueing - fun!

Aspencir, The recall was limited to the manufacturing run listed. They test within lot numbers for potential issues and found there could be a problem with all within that number range. BD would prefer not to have any of those out there and would rather you have a safe product to climb with. Bottom line - send it in!

Climbed Summer Falls on Saturday. What a fun climb and good plastic ice! Hope that it sticks around.

Congrats on getting it done in fine style. Pics are great. Awe come on - let's have another go at the Ice Cliff Glacier this coming weekend. No blisters and no falling into creeks.

Your correct Mike - I've had an old pair of ladies stretch pants that were a poly/lycra blend that lasted many a climb and scramble. Alas they did not have the 9+ pockets that these pants boast of. I hope you provide us with a gear review.

Since this is Cafe Sensitivioso: all I can say is poor gal! Seems like one becomes more of an oddity, sideshow, but I suppose if it makes you happy it can't be that bad (I hear Cheryl Crow stumming). I am only saying........

6'2" 175 - sounds hot and he climbs!! Always a bonus. Yes, some of my GF and I have chatted about it. Several husbands/boyfriends thought it would be fun but I think when reality sets in it maybe a challenge. Bribing?

Well about 20 years ago 5 of us were on this tour and up next was to climb and ski Glacier Peak. We were thwarted by rain on Baker so we really rallied to get into the hot springs for an early start the next day. We decided a soak was in order. It got a bit toasty in the hot springs, so a snowball fight ensued. One of the guys, Jim or Gordon, reached for a wad of snow and came up with a can of Schlitz beer. Quickly the snowball fight turned into find the other hidden beers - we only came up with a total of two. Thank you beer fairy!

Paul, I am truely saddened by this aweful revelation. Have you not imbibed of any "liquid" refreshment? Heck it is only 35 minutes away from the weekend!
