  1. Tis true. It's all Mt. Loop area climbing.
  2. You trickster Shapp thats not D-town AT ALL. Thats the wonderful Spring Mt. BTW Spring was still wet as of 05/16/11. Hanman and I were out there and climbed his new pitch just left of Vitamin R. Definite 3 star 10+ climb. Just make sure to wait for the water fall to die down a bit or face the Wrath of a wet start. Regarding D-town Total soul is a fine multipitch outing that is just left of Silent running. And given the limitied access as of late three o'clock rock might be the best bet for a single day outing. D-Town ROCKS
  3. Glad to hear you had a good time. Looks like an awesome place. P.S. I have your coffee Cup from our trip to Exit 38.
  4. Do you think WD-40 could damage webbing or a rope?
  5. I always figured that a cougar would see me long before I saw it, and if I did see it that it was probably because it wanted to eat me.
  6. Good times Mark. Wish we had that push broom.
  7. You can always climb down. Fastest way down and no gear left behind.
  8. PM sent. I'll take the whole lot.
  9. Why does it matter what side of the Mountains someone is from?
  10. It might be because when you camp there and look for a rock to help hold down your tent during a wind storm that fills your eyes with dust you find a condom underneath the rock. Or it might be because you wake up in the middle of the night to a shitty camper bumping Eminem at 2:00 am when your trying to sleep in a tent. Or it might be the attitude of some climber who likes to post on a popular route and make snide comments to any one that approaches or engages them in conversation. That being said I have a smile on my face everytime I climb.
  11. Mark says thats how he found spring and got started out there back in 2005 when the road washed out before.
  12. Spring Mt. is just south of Mt. Pugh out on FS road 49 off the Mountain loop highway. The road is washed out just under a mile before the trail head, but I imagine that the Forest service will fix it pretty quick this summer since it is a small washout on a fairly main road. Here is a link to a guide on RCNW.net Spring Mountain guide
  13. PM sent about the cams and biners.
  14. Trip: Chair Peak - NE Buttress Date: 2/2/2011 Trip Report: Went up and climbed Chair Peak yesterday with Brandonmc. The route was in descent shape with some manky ice on the first pitch, but good snow conditions and climbable ice at the step 2/3 up the route. I imagine that conditions were declining today because during most of the climb it was above freezing. Two other parties were on route and everyone summited. Thanks to the party before us who kicked all the steps through the snow sections. Didn't look like any one had been up there since the last snowfall or so. All in all a good way to spend a Wednesday with a good partner. Now for a few pictures. First party starting out on pitch 1. Route from base of climb. Looking up at the short vertical ice step. Brandon on Summit with Ranier in background. Mt. Stewart from summit. Looking down descent route Gear Notes: Ice screws, pickets, One "mental" KB on the first pitch, and slings for trees. Approach Notes: Approach: Trail was packed hard all the way to the notch. Descent: Down climb the gully on the northeast side of the false summit to the southeast to a rappel anchor at a saddle. Rappel off pins to the northeast two raps with the first about 35 meters long, and the second depositing you on a comfy snow field with good glisading.
  15. Anybody looking to get on something tomorrow within a day of Seattle. Alpine, free, aid, whatever. Want to get out and take advantage of this beautiful weather.
  16. I might be able to make it up there with you if I don't have any work going on. From your post time you might be thinking about Monday though, and I could go on tuesday.
  17. Clear Creek road is also washed out at about 4-5 miles from the beginning of the road at another major stream channel coming down from Jumbo Mt. This wahsout is about 5 times larger then the first. Debris filled up a ~10 foot diameter culvert. This probably caused the water to overtop and deposit material down the road to the east while scouring out the downhill side of the road. The majority of the damage is to the west of the culvert where the stream now runs. All in all about 500-700 feet of road were destroyed as well as a large culvert being ruined.
  18. It is about a 4 to 5 mile hike from there to get to the trailhead, probably about the same distance to get to the base of Exfo dome as well, maybe a bit further.
  19. That Sucks!
  20. After I heard about the washout on the Mt Loop I started thinking about those roads as well. Definetly going to have to take a look at what happened on FS 49, I don;t want to lose are access to Springy Spring. Regardless work parties are fun, thats why they are called parties!
  21. the road is closed at Heather lake so it is a 6 mile road trek to the trail head. Above that is a good winter path that takes you up to the ridge. You could probably ski all the way back to the car.
  22. There's bats up there too. It's funny when you're belaying someone that encounters a bat in a crack.
  23. Found a Black Diamond hiking pole at the trailhead of Squire Creek Pass Saturday night July 31st.
  24. I think that is my Helmet. Is it blue with a gear express sticker on the back? I would have lost it somewhere on the way down from Romanticka.
  25. I have always found that climbing with people who can already climb at those high levels is helpful. They may be able to provide beta that is hard to realize when struggling with moves on lead. Of course top roping the route you want to lead can also make it easier. As far as grades go me and BenMurphy were out at Erie last night and we both got spanked by a 10c/d on top rope, I thought it was graded much harder then Frenchmans, And it wasn't raining, and my dog collected over 50 ticks. Man Erie is a great place to climb.
