  1. He still had to do his frozen hand dance though...
  2. Sure is quiet around here...Montana has been generous these last two weekends. Hope everyone has a good season.
  3. go look at photos on nwhikers
  4. Bump. Thanks for the responses so far! Planning on keeping this open four weeks from the posting date.
  5. Length of ski depends on your weight, your height and what you've skied previously. With that being said, I'd imagine the majority of ski on something in the 170s and 180s.
  6. Jake, if you haven't seen it, there is a good review on those on wildsnow.
  7. I can second the alpine threadworks pack. I used and abused mine all this past year and it has held up like a champ. Really well designed. So good that two of my ski partners purchased their own after they say mine. Neil does good work and also does customization if you so desire. For what its worth, I've been eyeing some packs from Vaude to try for big ice cragging/winter alpine climbing..
  8. Hi all, As some of you may know, I am in the physician assistant program at the University of Washington. I'm currently working on my master's project, which is on the topic of wilderness medicine education. Part of my project, is to administer a survey to obtain an idea of the general public's education level and comfort with wilderness medical skills. The survey only takes a few minutes. By clicking on the following link, you agree that you are over 18 years of age and recreate in the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Wilderness Medicine Education Survey Thanks so much for your time. -Kevin Oberholser My posting of this survey has been approved by site moderators.
  9. Keenan: where the rap is would difficult to downclimb to the gully; slightly overhung with not good feet or hands. We left new webbing and a locker on it last month. The first time I climbed this route we stayed lower and didn't need to rap. Sam: Nice job on the route. It is definitely a big one. I'd recommend doing it again in a couple years to see how much you've improved. It is a good litmus test.
  10. That is rampart ridge. Given my time in the area, there is probably a reason why there are no routes up it!
  11. Bump if someone has a room for rent.
  12. I don't have the exact weight of inserts, but they're less than 260g, which counts if you're into that sort of thing. Price is $120 per ski set vs $18... Stack height is more of a concern if you use brakes or ski crampons. We're only talking 7 mm here but ya know... Not really trying to get into an argument about it. Both systems have their perks. Rob I think you'll be happy and Jon Drums is a good guy if you have any questions.
  13. Curious why you need different bindings for those three? Inserts would still be advantageous if your bindings all have the same mounting pattern, then you can still swap the bindings between skis.
  14. Mounting plates are much heavier, much more expensive and add stack height.
  15. I'm not sure if this is better here or spray...apologies if I missed the boat on this one and it has already been covered on cc.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=EMryDYYUaco
  16. If you are comfortable with power tools you can do all the stuff yourself. His templates are good as well. I do all my own binding mounts now.
  17. I would disregard their comments. Several of my ski partners and myself all use them without problem. I use Jon Drums' products and they are top notch in my opinion. bindingfreedom.com If you have some time to kill: long thread about inserts Happy to answer more questions if you have them.
  18. I'm just about to finish up Beyond the Mountains by Steve House and was hoping people could suggest some similar books. Particularly in regards to modern style alpine climbs. And yes, I've read Twight's books. Thanks all.
  19. Not sure how I missed that one! I love the winds...the beckey route on warrior still beckons...
  20. Sweet Pat! I've made two trips out there and had a blast both times. I've gone in early september when there is no crowds and no bugs. Count me in for a group trip to the winds! Haystack is phenomenal!
  21. You gonna post a TR from the winds?

  23. That is actually what I was referring to. One could easily descend that whole face on the snow or walk down one of the rock fingers, cross about 15-20 ft of snow and get back on another rock/dirt band. My partner and I just had tennis shoes, so we took the later option.
  24. Snow was soft on the descent by the afternoon. We avoided all the snow except for about 15 ft to connect two rock bands. You can traverse from the summit to false summit no problem.
  25. Came across this... http://www.mountainproject.com/v/new-scarpa-techno-worth-the-wait/108259559
