It's a good thing Porter jumped in and saved me.

The last time I was videoed doing an extreme sport I damn near hung myself in the shower.

The "world", including climbing is unfortunately scary, and I made sure that my kids knwow it too. People who aren't scared of climbing while they are learning probably shouldn't be climbing or at least be on a very short leash until they gain the experience to assess danger. I think the word "SHOULD" should be abolished.

Trip: Nooksack Shower - Bcky/Sch. Date: 6/19/2009 Trip Report: TR Nooksack Shower June 18, 19 17:00: “It doesn’t look that bad” 19:00: “If it’s raining when we get up at 3:00, we bail” 02:45: “Shit (sound of scrambling back into the tent and zipping up of bivvy sack”) 06:00: “Maybe we could wander over to the base and check it out” 06:01: “Fuck that noise” The UW climate model foretold of 2 mostly sunny days, but we all know what happened. Still, I had been on the couch far too long to forsake a wet flailing in the Green Gauntlet. One email from Don B One and I was in. Tom S and Don B II, 2 excessive compulsives who’ve tagged more summits than the flying ant population rounded out our happy roster. Animal notes: One fresh bear tracks/scat sighting. Don rides the cellulose bronc over Ruth Creek The objective framed in fleeting hope Reality closes in Three Hombres, duded up for a fiesta nongrata Price Lake. The further away you are, the better it looks. I just thought I’d throw this one in because that is what I do: Steer’s Head Dicentra Uniflora (Chinook Pass) Approach Notes: Approach Notes: The road (both Hannegan Pass and Ruth Creek) is closed at mile 0.5 until as late as Aug 22 for repairs. That adds 2.2 miles of mountain biking to the TH, + 2.8 miles of trail to the turn off. At 2.8 miles in from the TH, look right for an obvious trail down to Ruth Creek (easily visible). You’ll be in the tall timber at that point. Follow the trail down and trend left to find the crossing logs (2 of them), or ford the creek downstream of the logs. The faint game trail up is less than 50 yards left of Price Creek. It tops out on the crest of the moraine to the left and above Price Lake, then contours the talus. Look for a logical ascent to the ridge crest and saunter on up to a bivvy at around 5800’. From there, it’s an easy scramble down to the glacier, which is in very good shape right now. Snow conditions are excellent for climbing. Be advised: there are snow patches on the rock section, so choose your weather accordingly or wear appropriate body armour.

I've already made plans for tomorrow (probably lolling around on a drifting sailboat), but perhaps another time with more lead time.

Copied and pasted from this very site. You are all part of my project--and performing nicely. Do not challenge an extreme Paranoid Compulsive on documentation; you will lose every time.

Palin is an ignorant cunt who has every bidness gunning for one of the top slots of national power, given that a substantial majority of those who hold such positions are complete and utter tools.

Like most neandertals, I hate people with power. Long live the unsubjugated angry hairless monkey.

Well, there are no mailboxes in the city, after all....

Balsa wood rockets work better.

I just thought I'd drop a wee boat into this teacup to watch it toss about

Remember, waterboarding does not intentionally produce a fear of imminent death (prohibited by statute), and months of solitary isolation in a brightly lit cell in the nude is not intended to produce severe mental anguish (prohibited by statute).

Ah, yes, the beheading video, the meaning of which is presumably that: a) They're not like us, and b) We should be more like them Of course, the natural endpoint of such a philosophy is a world where everyone indulges in atrocities. Along the way to that delightful outcome, disseminating and indulging such atrocities (by viewing and promulgating images like this, for example, opportunities for which you never seem to miss) increases the dehumanization of oneself and others. Pure bad karma. Its enough to know that such atrocities exist in the world, and why we should steer clear of committing them, whether it be beheading or isolating and dehumanizing a human being, regardless of guilt, for months at a time until they are obviously psychotic. If you think I'm being lily livered about all this, perhaps you might also post videos of child pornography (also abhorrent). After all, is your motivation outrage or titillation? Given how frequently you indulge yourself here in a like manner, I have a hard time believing that its purely the former. And then there is the rule of law versus anarchy (the result of which is depicted in your image), but that's another discussion.

It is recommended that the detainee be 'baselined' through the prolonged application of Sleep Deprivation, Nudity, Isolation, and Manipulated Diet (Liquid Diet). Duration of application should depend on level of compliance. Clothing may serve as a powerful form of instant gratification. The occasional Facial Slap or Walling session will dispel any assumptions the detainee may harbor that he won't be touched.

Microbe Awakens After 120,000 Years Under the Ice

It's first word: "Altoid!" -
Classical liberalism = anarchist? Really? Interesting perspective. Handing over unchecked power to the state...seems a touch dubious as the best way to promote, much less secure anything that could be described as social progress, but I'd be more than happy to read any defense of this idea that you care to offer. You and your fellows (politically speaking) have already done this and cheered themselves for it. Congratulations...and thanks from the rest of us.

By the same logic, I think we should consider the number of civilian 'collateral damage' casualties perpetrated by each nation's military, and compare this figure to your measure, then demand a repudiation from that nation's population. Or, we could consider the number of murders committed, by nationality, and demand a repudiation of violence from that population. Or, we could measure the number of bankruptcies in first world countries due to the UNIQUE lack of a national health care program, the decry the systemic cruelty of such a result. Or, we could measure the total dollar amount of military weapons bought and sold, by nationality, and demand a repudiation of those purchases/sales by that population. Or we could... ...oh, wait.... Yeah, I guess our shit stinks too, huh? Oh well, just another day in the life of an angry, hairless monkey. Personally, I don't take any responsibility whatsoever for the behavior of fellow atheists with buddhist overtones, so I'm really not at all sure why anyone would think that muslims at large bear any responsibility to 'control' (good luck) the behavior of violent extremists, many of whom aren't genuine, practicing muslims, anyway. But I'm sure that if the muslim world were to rise up in one voice, as they have done so many times in the past, and write that angry letter, all those car bombings would certainly cease immediately. After all, muslim extremists have been waiting for their bretheran (who comprise a majority of their targets) to express their dissatisfaction. Like a party balloon, your logic is seamless.

In the event that any of you need to torture someone, here are the 13 techniques that, arguably, do not violate the statutory prohibition on torture (U.S. Code Title 18, Chapter 113C, Section 2340). Prolonged Isolation, Attention Grasp, Walling, Facial Hold, Facial Slap (Insult Slap), Cramped Confinement, Wall Standing, Stress Positions, Sleep Deprivation, Insects Placed in a Confinement Box, Waterboarding, Nudity (Prolonged OK), and Dietary Manipulation (Liquid Diet). Please remember that use of a diaper is recommended for extended sessions, particularly when Dietary Manipulation is in use. The presence of a SERE (Survive, Evade, Resist, and Escape) Psychologist is recommended during application of these techniques to monitor the well being of the detainee. Thank you, and God Bless America.

Microbe Awakens After 120,000 Years Under the Ice

From simplicity, complexity. Makes sense to me. -
your "most fucked up religion on the planet" award must take into account the entire history of the religion, no? the recent outbreak of muslim insanity can be balanced against a great deal of stabilty and reasonability in the previous centuries. at any rate, no matter what they profess, most folks' true religion is greed, and that is no doubt a better candidate for your vaunted accolade I think it's worth taking the historical track record into account, and I'm more than happy to give Muslims credit for being less barbaric than Europeans during the crusades, etc - but there's only so far take your moral accounting before you start placing modern-day Swedes on an equal footing with the Taliban because of their propensity to rampage and pillage in the 11th and 12th centuries... Not very pithy, I know, but it's probably helpful to remember that, even if many tens of thousands of Muslims are violently radicalized (and that would be generous), that would represent less than 1/1000th of a percent of the total worldwide population of 1.4+ billion. These evildoers are hardly an accurate representation of the faith in general. If you think they are, then by the same statistical logic all Americans are homocidal hermaphrodites.
