  1. It is recommended that the detainee be 'baselined' through the prolonged application of Sleep Deprivation, Nudity, Isolation, and Manipulated Diet (Liquid Diet). Duration of application should depend on level of compliance. Clothing may serve as a powerful form of instant gratification. The occasional Facial Slap or Walling session will dispel any assumptions the detainee may harbor that he won't be touched.
  2. It's first word: "Altoid!"
  3. Classical liberalism = anarchist? Really? Interesting perspective. Handing over unchecked power to the state...seems a touch dubious as the best way to promote, much less secure anything that could be described as social progress, but I'd be more than happy to read any defense of this idea that you care to offer. You and your fellows (politically speaking) have already done this and cheered themselves for it. Congratulations...and thanks from the rest of us.
  4. By the same logic, I think we should consider the number of civilian 'collateral damage' casualties perpetrated by each nation's military, and compare this figure to your measure, then demand a repudiation from that nation's population. Or, we could consider the number of murders committed, by nationality, and demand a repudiation of violence from that population. Or, we could measure the number of bankruptcies in first world countries due to the UNIQUE lack of a national health care program, the decry the systemic cruelty of such a result. Or, we could measure the total dollar amount of military weapons bought and sold, by nationality, and demand a repudiation of those purchases/sales by that population. Or we could... ...oh, wait.... Yeah, I guess our shit stinks too, huh? Oh well, just another day in the life of an angry, hairless monkey. Personally, I don't take any responsibility whatsoever for the behavior of fellow atheists with buddhist overtones, so I'm really not at all sure why anyone would think that muslims at large bear any responsibility to 'control' (good luck) the behavior of violent extremists, many of whom aren't genuine, practicing muslims, anyway. But I'm sure that if the muslim world were to rise up in one voice, as they have done so many times in the past, and write that angry letter, all those car bombings would certainly cease immediately. After all, muslim extremists have been waiting for their bretheran (who comprise a majority of their targets) to express their dissatisfaction. Like a party balloon, your logic is seamless.

    Torture

In the event that any of you need to torture someone, here are the 13 techniques that, arguably, do not violate the statutory prohibition on torture (U.S. Code Title 18, Chapter 113C, Section 2340). Prolonged Isolation, Attention Grasp, Walling, Facial Hold, Facial Slap (Insult Slap), Cramped Confinement, Wall Standing, Stress Positions, Sleep Deprivation, Insects Placed in a Confinement Box, Waterboarding, Nudity (Prolonged OK), and Dietary Manipulation (Liquid Diet). Please remember that use of a diaper is recommended for extended sessions, particularly when Dietary Manipulation is in use. The presence of a SERE (Survive, Evade, Resist, and Escape) Psychologist is recommended during application of these techniques to monitor the well being of the detainee. Thank you, and God Bless America.
  6. From simplicity, complexity. Makes sense to me.
  7. your "most fucked up religion on the planet" award must take into account the entire history of the religion, no? the recent outbreak of muslim insanity can be balanced against a great deal of stabilty and reasonability in the previous centuries. at any rate, no matter what they profess, most folks' true religion is greed, and that is no doubt a better candidate for your vaunted accolade I think it's worth taking the historical track record into account, and I'm more than happy to give Muslims credit for being less barbaric than Europeans during the crusades, etc - but there's only so far take your moral accounting before you start placing modern-day Swedes on an equal footing with the Taliban because of their propensity to rampage and pillage in the 11th and 12th centuries... Not very pithy, I know, but it's probably helpful to remember that, even if many tens of thousands of Muslims are violently radicalized (and that would be generous), that would represent less than 1/1000th of a percent of the total worldwide population of 1.4+ billion. These evildoers are hardly an accurate representation of the faith in general. If you think they are, then by the same statistical logic all Americans are homocidal hermaphrodites.
  8. Of course. This act is clearly a case of domestic terrorism. I'll even grant that it's a good deal more repulsive that those Oregon ELF-types burning down laboratories or ski lifts--acts that seem to bring out the chirping crickets with avatars like yours. But if you had bothered to calm your jerking knee you might have taken my comparison at face value. Yes, both the murder of the abortion doc and the islam convert murder of the Army recruiter are terrorism. What constitutes the crime of 'domestic terrorism' exactly, FW? And, if you can come up with the statutory language the defines it, is this good law or bad law?
  9. It's understandable why the playuhz here would quickly resort to name calling, because none of them seem to have the capacity analyze such a fucked up, solutionless situation like Afghanistan. Basically, in 2001 Bush was awarded the authority by the legislature to go after 3 parties: The perpetrators of 911, Al Qaeda, and the Taliban, plus all those who provide 'material support' (an entire subject unto itself not without just a wee bit of controversy). None of you seem to have the neural complexity to discuss such minor nits as: How does one prop up a nearly non-existent regime like Afghanistan's over the long term, to ensure that whatever 'victories over evil' occur there stick for more than, say, a week? How does one 'defeat Al Qaeda and the Taliban' (excellent goals...if they were actually possible) when they can simply operate in and threaten the stability of Pakistan? How will our bankrupt nation pay for all this shit? Is either the Taliban or Al Qaeda a big enough threat, and I'm including 911 in that assessment, to warrant the trillion + we've spent unsuccessfully trying to exterminate them? Is this new installment $$$ simply throwing more borrowed money after an already failed policy? But of course, this thread is not about any of the above. It's about the emotional need of seeing bad people get their asses kicked (by someone else, of course), or the competing emotional need of seeing a fundamentally wrong headed and corrupt government (our own) fail. Regarding 'dated' references to 1984; Orwell could not be more prescient and relevant right now. One of the four torture memos describes the 11 'acceptable' practices, one of which is 'confinement in a box with an insect' (because the detainee had a phobia if insects). Room 101 anyone? From the Ministry of Love (Dept of Homeland Security), total surveillance, bullshit/endless warfare, and 2.2 million American's in prison, Orwell's vision has been realized, albeit in a freshly mowed fashion with convenient parking and abundant high calories, rather than rationing and near starvation.
  10. Iranians do love to party. All deist religions are equally fucked up. Individual practitioners vary along those lines, not the doctrines themselves. Once a cult doctrine is established, there's no telling what it will become over time, given the limitless kookiness of angry, hairless monkeys. Fully militarized riot police: The 21st Century's iconic symbol, and we are it's poster child.
  11. Ivan, you don't need to cloche. I can't be bothered, and I can pull jalapenos off the plants 1-2 everyday once the plants get going. Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And while the plants don't appear to be growing this year, I got flowers on the cayenne already. And for the rest of my garden report: Already have pea sized cherry tomatoes on the plants Beans are calf high with leaves the size of my palm All the onions (NY early, Cippolini, WW) are doing grand Leeks just plugging along, but not like the onions I should be able to start harvesting carrots in 4 weeks or less Broccoli coming along fine Potatoes (all blue) are out of control and knee high! Tvash: How do you know when to harvest the garlic? We planted some back in October, and it just put out bulblets last week (which I promptly cut.) I can't tell when to harvest without actually harvesting them to see what they're up to. Clip the flower buds off your garlic before they bloom (May/June) and sautee those little beyotches and eat em. Stop watering the garlic from that point on and pull them around July 1. Pull them out July 1.
  12. I wouldn't mind listening to Jesus on Sundays if he'd spin something worth listening to. Microbes have survived up to 7 years on the outside of an orbital spacecraft, too. Don't fuck whichem.
  13. Try a warm weather spinach, like Summer Perfection. Even Correnta will bolt in weather like we've had. May's too late for the other types. Side dress the seedlings with blood meal to get them to grow as fast as possible before they bolt, and eat 'em when they're small. The most common types of spinach are, from cold weather to warm weather types: Tyee, Skookum and Bloomsdale, Olympia, Correnta, Summer Perfection. PLanting different spinaches in an order like this successively, starting the 3rd week of Feb, will give you a harvest during more of the year. starting end of Feb, will provide you with spinach during much of the year. You reverse the order after mid summer.
  14. So she calls it Gus? As a matter of fact....
  15. So rather using the lawn mower for target practice, which I should have done, I pulled the head, cleaned up the valves and seats, and tightened it back down. I also checked all the other bolts (carb, etc). Then I changed out the gas, gas line (old), and spark. It runs for longer, now, but still threatens to quit occasionally. It's most likely the ignition coil, but fuck spending money on a machine I'm phasing out of my life anyway. For the once a month I use it, I can live with it as is until it needs to be tossed off a cliff. I really only need it to grind up yard waste for compost: the scythe will be a more trouble-free grass mower. I paid 100 bucks 19 years ago for this thing, and it's been the most reliable machine I've ever owned; hence the last minute surgery. I owe it that much at least. Oh, and the handle just snapped at the base on one side. FAWK.
  16. Huge, firm, and ribbed.
  17. Not yet, but Washington just passed a strong civil unions bill. It's only a matter of time before the moronic quibbling over the word 'marriage', which is nothing more than a smoke screen for a disciminatory, faith-based agenda, goes by the wayside and everyone is granted the same exact rights under the same exact legal statutes. The 14th Amendment has taken an awful long time to be put into actual practice.
  18. You know, keeping TR pics out of Spray is fine and all, but I sure wish you'd leave my family out of it, too.
  19. but that was a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
  20. People don't notice certain mushrooms as readily, even when they're right next to the sidewalk. Or so I've read.
  21. That's less than 20 cents per assinine post, people. Get in line and pony up now.
  22. Seemed more in line with the general sentiment.
  23. Loada shite. Solid climbers who just want to get out a lot, have a flexible schedule, and are gregarious enough to meet new folks (perhaps the lack of this latter trait has more to do with why you posted this comment, rather than any real knowledge of what actually happens on the partners forum) post there all the time. Likewise for the responders.
  24. My computer barely works, which is more than can be said for that vestigial Vienna sausage cowering somewhere south of your protruding belly.
  25. Petra, the little four year old girl across the street, loves to kick it to "Dance the Night Away". Aside from that, Van Halen is/was the worst runny stool band ever to shit-smear the airwaves.
