  1. $250 fine if you get caught. I was threatened with a ticket a couple weeks ago, even though I was just on a day trip. In her mind, I had "too much food for a day trip". Seems pretty easy to get caught, especially if you have a car in the parking lot. I've only been there 3 times and have had talks with rangers checking permits on all of those occasions. I Think you are better off just showing up at the ranger station at opening time and hoping for a last day permit. I've gotten in that way. Good luck.

    Real Question

The US spends more per child for education than any other nation. How do the figures for money spent per child on education compare to how much per capita is spent on the war machine(s)? I'm sure it depends on who you ask, but I'd bet we still spend WAY more on war than education, no matter which angle you look at if from.
  4. auto correct.
  5. Love me some fried chicken rooster gizzards.

    Real Question

Although I've never worked in the bureaucracy, my understanding is budgets are not only "use it or lose it" when it comes to funding, but also are incentive-ized to need more every year... If I don't use $XXXX, I will get less $ next year. Therefore, I must also spend MORE than budgeted in order to demand an increase in the last budget. Seems our entire infrastructure is set up that way, no?
  7. Another Festivus miracle!

  9. Don't forget the W Ridge of Prusik.
  10. Have you ever taken a long fall on a thin rope? I have and the rope stretch is a LOT more than a single rope (obviously). Still a great option for alpine terrain, though.
  11. Nice send. I see you ran into the same Ms Ranger that shut us down last week. She noted my bag of food and said "that's way too much food for a day trip". I'd just grabbed the bag and threw it in my pack at the car with about 5 days worth of candy in it. "That's just how I roll", was my reply. Still waiting for the promised ticket to show up in the mail, even though we NEVER did bivy and went out that day.
  12. Who the hell is this Sobo guy, anyway??? Inquiring minds want to know, and so do I.
  13. How about you rub some rock salt in there while your at it.

  18. I'm thinking of how many pounds I could save if I got rid of that "dead" weight. Just sayin. Seems you've been away a long time, anyway, lately. All things come full circle...
  19. granted, good sir, the genus is the subject, not the species! Mmmmmmmm, oysters! On that subject I'm a purist. Horseradish and tabasco sauce, and a squeeze a lemon. I can eat a couple dozen right now...
  20. OK, thread drift. We all know change-overs are big time killers, on the road home or on a long alpine route. So, how do you hold yer pee on a long road trip, stopping only for gas? I pretend I'm peeing out my finger, while tapping it on the steering wheel. Seems to give me the allusion of relief for a while. Or, just be sure to save that large mouth Gatorade bottle.
  21. Don't forget the anchovies.
  22. Have you tried it on a Ritz cracker with vanilla ice cream? Yes, I'm serious. I LOVE a Ritz with vanilla ice cream and a few sliced Serrano peppers on top. The salty, sweet crunchy mixed with the ice cold, silky & spicy is over the top fawking delictable goodness. Don't knock it till ya try it!
  23. I used to go to the winds every year, preferably in September. There is less bugs (hopefully), cool days and possible some fall colors and or early snow. The last time I was at the winds, it was the 3rd week in October and we had traces of snow and pretty cool nights. The only draw back is elk hunting season when every hunter in Wyoming seems to be up there. I don't recall when the season starts/ends, though. Still, it is pretty easy to find plenty of isolated, grand alpine peaks and valleys. If it were me, I'd head straight into the Cirque of the Towers, approaching from the west side out of Pinedale, WY. Have a great trip. I'm jealous!
