    palin pregnancy

She probably pressured her NOT to. Did the daughter get to choose? Which is worse? SHE didn't keep the kid. Her daughter did. Remember? Neither do I

    palin pregnancy

too bad they're making the daughter marry the father. But, I suppose to a lot of people it's the only way to "fix it." What would be so bad about letting the daughter get a little older and letting her get to know the sperm donor a little more before getting hitched? Oh, that's right, because otherwise it's a sin. Too bad the daughter got caught up in this political bullshit.

    Leng K Lao

Last night, when closing out my tab, they gave me the wrong card. I remember thinking, "this tab seems kinda small for a night of drinks for 4 people..." but wasn't really paying attention. Imagine my surprise this morning when I was paying for coffee and pulled out someone else's card. Good thing it's a platinum business account! I wonder if Mr. Loa closed out MY tab for me. Anybody need a tank of gas?

    School's Starting!

My son starts 3rd grade on Tuesday. We went to the student/teacher orientation yesterday and he met his teacher -- named Mrs. Gross! Why would someone teach elementary school students with a name like that? Blakely met her, and she told him her name, and I could see the corners of his mouth twitching. He said, "well....that's an interesting name." Athena starts kindergarten. At the orientation, all the parents were asking yuppy questions, like "Does the school serve organic food?" And "is there any way to not serve snacks with corn syrup or artifical colorings/flavorings?" Someone else was complaining that the school didn't have any "african art" programs. The bus driver reminded us not to follow the school bus to school on the first day, because she's obligated to call the police department if she sees any cars following her bus. What a world we live in. 12 more years!

McCain with the teleprompter still puts on the biggest shit show I've seen excluding our current shit-show-in-chief
  8. I can't remember, and I don't have beckey nearby -- I wonder, isn't there some kind of Northwest Face or something you can use to access the upper west ridge via the north side?

    RIF!

Yeah, too bad. Even if I do find another position in the company, and interview for it, and they give me an offer (pretty big IFs), the VP or my org won't even let me leave until I've finished training our replacements, which could be months from now -- which really makes it hard to look for a job, since I can't really start for a while. It's like being some place between life and death. a) wait until the transition is over (months from now), then get 6 weeks to try and find a position within the company in a hurry, or get laid off and lose my stock awards b) look for a job within the company while I'm on the transition team, and hope they don't mind that I can't actually start for several months. c) leave the company NOW, and lose all my stock awards what a mess

    RIF!

Yay -- first I get to train the outsourcing guys who are taking over, so I get to stick around another month or two. Isn't that awesome?
  22. I've got Friday free. Anybody want to go climbing? I'm open to anything -- cragging in leavenworth, C2C alpine trip (I can leave Thursday night), whatever. We can discuss ideas. Rob

  24. And pharmaceuticals too? And hospitals? And Doctors in private practice? I think the first step is just to lower insurance costs. Health insurance industry makes billions in profits. That's a good place to start. Should Dr's be non-profit? Of course not. I know some Dr's. They don't make all that much. I think the first place to start is the insurance companies HUGE profits. They're raking it in while denying claims? Fuck that. Everyone has to buy insurance if their employer doesn't cover it. Say as a fixed rate payroll deduction. For those unemployed, it's covered for a time, just like unemployment. Everyone has some copay for each visit and some deductible. That sounds like a good start. With the profit ripped out of the insurance industry, perhaps cheap insurance would be more realistic. Medicaid exists for the truly impoverished. But, how would we cover those who have jobs and don't qualify for medicaid, but don't have enough for even cheap insurance? I'm thinking of my friend who works at Starbucks for 8 bucks an hour and lives paycheck to paycheck. The cost of insurance would have to come WAY down.
