Yeah, what you just described is a perfect example of how I do things too. When you are pushing fitness like this, the line between being a great athlete and having massive fatigue becomes thiner and thiner.

surgery on two limbs in a short period of time

I had screws removed from my ankle a few years ago and found the recovery from that surgery pretty easy. Which wrist bones are the screws in? And what kind or surgery is happening on your ankle? Depending on that, I think you are right to think about having them done at the same time. Might as well get all your recovery over with all at once too! -

Yeah Yeah Yeah...... I have gotten some bad vibes from a few locals. I do understand their view point, and probably would be the same if I were them. Seriously, their islands, culture, and GENES have been desimated! It blew me away to learn that there are essentially ZERO native species of ANYTHING now on the islands. Its rediculous.

Well, Mythos, I don't know who this "Russ" guy is, but the sun monster is in Hawaii! I'm staying up on the northwest shore of Oahu out in "the sticks" as the condo people like to say. So far its been AWSOME! We went for this totally rad hike yesterday up this really old stair thing, and gained something like 2000 feet of elevation in 90 degree temps. Climbing steep stuff in that heat is such an awesome workout! Perfect training for climbing. Then after that we spent all afternoon attempting to surf. Basically, I paddled a half mile out, then proceeded to get pounded by the ocean over and over till finally I slammed into the bottom coral and became a humbled [little] man! I got up only twice, rode the wave for like five feet, then ate shit. I'll get it today....... Everyone else enjoying themselves today?

Yeah, I haven't been able to get myself to check it regularly, but it is a good way of monitoring where your body is really at. Another tool I've been using to avoid overtraining is keeping a small journal about how well I'm sleeping. I find that if I'm over stressing myself in any form I tend to have lighter and interupted sleep. I also wake up way earlier than my normal. On these days I usually (hopefully) make myself take it easy for a day or two. Meaning, stay out of the gym and don't do any hard runs. Maybe a walk and stretching. Overall I find that if I am still sleeping really well (as exercise should make you do) and maintaining a monstrous appetite, things are A - OK.

Yeah, heart rate is a good tool to look at for measuring how stressed your body is. If you are overtraining, there will be higher levels of catecholamines floating around, and this elevates heart rate. If you are well rested, the oposite is true. Obviously.

I've been swimming with these creatures all afternoon! They are amazing.... every movement they do under water is so perfect and graceful. Not an ounce of energy is wasted.

I'm about to graduate with my bachelor's in exercise physiology and minor in chemistry. All the crap I unloaded on here is mostly a result of me being a massive science obsessor, and simultaneously having a major real life struggle with all the issues discussed. I will say that getting sick, and deciding to learn about the physiology of what was [wrong] with me was the best educational experience I've ever had. It just so happened that my studies at university coincided perfectly. As for anyone being a " big shot", man, I could not care less. I know there are a lot of insanely smart and accomplished people on here, far smarter and more accomplished than I. Hopefully some of them will post on this subject too so we can all learn and improve.

Actually its a small percentage of extremists who are doing this. I may be an infidel and deserve to die, but some certain people also read the bible, and the bible happens to say "Disobedient children should be stoned to death". My point is that extremism in any form is damn dangerous. I think you'd find that if as a nation we did more humanitarian work and less conquering, there would be fewer attacks.
